Andrew Walther Named as President of EWTN News
Walther is a veteran Catholic media executive, journalist and int’l. religious freedom advocate
(WASHINGTON, DC/ May 8) – EWTN Global Catholic Network, the world’s largest Catholic media organization, today announced that Andrew Walther – an experienced Catholic journalist, media executive, and advocate for persecuted Christians – has been named president and chief operating officer of EWTN News, Inc. The appointment is effective June 1.
Walther began his Catholic media career as a journalist writing for the National Catholic Register two decades ago. Most recently he has served as vice president for communications and strategic planning at the Knights of Columbus. In his role as president of the news division, Walther will oversee EWTN’s vast news media platforms, which create content in English, Spanish, German, French, Portuguese and Italian. Its holdings include Catholic News Agency, the National Catholic Register, the ACI group, ChurchPop and EWTN’s lineup of television and radio news programming.
“As well as being an accomplished Catholic journalist and media executive, Andrew Walther brings to this role unique expertise in the global Church,” said EWTN Chairman and CEO Michael P. Warsaw. “His leadership experience with a global Catholic communications and media operation – and his previous work with the National Catholic Register and EWTN News Nightly – gives him the added advantage of already knowing the Catholic media world and many of the people within the EWTN family. We look forward to having him lead and strengthen our news division,” Warsaw said.
Since 2005, Walther has worked in senior roles at the Knights of Columbus. During his tenure at the Knights, Walther helped launch the organization’s modern communications department overseeing work with Catholic and secular media outlets, the launch of social media channels and video production, and the organization’s global media work, especially in Europe and the Middle East. He was also heavily involved in the organization’s charitable work and disaster relief initiatives.
Walther also organized and led the Knights’ work on behalf of persecuted Christians in the Middle East, traveling to Iraq several times and successfully leading a public effort to have ISIS’ campaign of persecution declared “genocide” by Secretary of State John Kerry.
His advocacy for persecuted Christians and other religious minorities in the Middle East helped shape policy in both the Obama and Trump administrations, and he also helped play a role in forging a bipartisan legislative consensus on behalf of persecuted Christians and other victims of ISIS in the Middle East. Walther’s efforts included working with other governments and the UN as well as with Catholic, Orthodox, Protestant, Jewish and Muslim leaders to end violence and persecution and bring relief to persecuted Christian communities.
“Andrew Walther has been a good friend and a trusted colleague for many years,” said Archbishop José H. Gomez of Los Angeles, President of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops and a longtime member of EWTN’s board of governors. “Andrew is one of the Church’s finest strategic thinkers and a highly respected advocate for international religious liberty. All of this will serve him well as head of the world’s largest Catholic news organization. I wish him great success.”
While working closely over the years with many bishops, dioceses and Catholic organizations in North America, Walther also worked closely with the Vatican on several projects under both Pope Benedict XVI and Pope Francis.
“Mother Angelica created a network dedicated to ‘the advancement of truth’ and Catholic news is a vital part of this mission,” Walther said. “I look forward to working with the talented and dedicated team of journalists at EWTN News to provide news from a Catholic perspective and to highlight important stories that might otherwise be overlooked.”
In addition to his roles in media and religious freedom advocacy, Walther also oversaw the Knights’ polling and book publishing operations, which included several New York Times bestsellers. Together with his wife, Maureen, he co-authored The Knights of Columbus: An Illustrated History, a book released this year.

ReplyDeleteBishop Athanasius Schneider and the Lefebvrists are unable to tell the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith that they are using a false premise to interpret Vatican Council II and other magisterial documents.
Bishop Athanasius Schneider and the Lefebvrists are unable to tell the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith(CDF) that they are using a false premise to interpret Vatican Council II and other magisterial documents. Since Schneider himself inteprets Vatican Council II with the false premise and inference and then does not like the expected conclusion. He then blames the Council and calls for a Syllabus of Errors.
Bishop Schneider like the CDF, wants Brother Andre Marie, MICM, Prior at the St. Benedict Center, N.H, USA to interpret 1) Vatican Council II(LG 8, UR 3, GS 22 etc) 2) the dogma extra ecclesiam nulla salus (EENS) 3) the baptism of desire(BOD), baptism of blood(BOB) and invincible ignorance(I.I) 4) Catechism of the Catholic Church n.846 Outside the Church No Salvation 5)Athanasius Creed( all need Catholic faith for salvation) 6) Catechism of Pope Pius X ( 24 Q, 27 Q) 7) Syllabus of Errors of Pope Pius IX ( ecumenism, other religions and salvation) etc with a false premise.
In this way there is a rejection of the traditional teaching on exclusive salvation in the Catholic Church.
The alleged traditionalist will also be interpreting Quanta Cura, Mystici Corporis etc with the false premise to create a rupture with the Athanasius Creed and EENS. Since wherever BOD,BOB and I.I are mentioned in these texts , he will project them as 1) visible examples of salvation outside the Catholic Church, non Catholics saved without faith and baptism and so they are 2) exceptions to EENS, Syllabus of Errors etc. on exclusive salvation. For me BOD, BOB and I.I refer to hypothetical and theoretical cases only. So Mystici Corporis etc do not contradict Feeneyite EENS.
Bishop Schneider does not make the distinction between invisible-visible,implicit-explicit,subjective-objective and what is unknown and known.
So he supports the CDF which only allows vocations to the religious life, if a candidate, rejects exclusive salvation in the Church by confusing what is invisible as visible, hypothetical as real.
Similarly he expects the Society of St. Pius X(SSPX) to accept Vatican Council II interpreted with the false premise, to receive canonical recognition, like the St. Benedict Center, Still River, USA( not to be confused with the community at Richmond ,New Hampshire).
The traditionalists at St. Benedict Center, Still River, where Brother Thomas Augustine MICM is the Prior in the diocese of Worcester, USA,have to condone Vatican Council II interpreted with the false premise by the bishop Robert McManus. So he has granted them canonical recognition approved by the CDF.
If Brother Andre Marie MICM,Prior at SBC, New Hampshire, would interpret Vatican Council II with the false premise and so negate Feeneyite EENS, he too would be approved by the CDF and the diocese of Manchester, where the bishop is Peter Libasci.
The CDF and Bishop Schneider are not asking religious communities to interpret Vatican Council II with the false premise. They do not want to offend the Jewish Left rabbis and those who persecute with Leftist laws.
The CDF, Bishop Schneider and Cardinal Braz de Avez want the Franciscans of the Immaculate to interpret Vatican Council II with the false premise to create a rupture with Tradition. They are not telling the Franciscans of the Immaculate to interpret Vatican Council II in continuity with exclusive salvation in the Catholic Church.
Without the false premise there is no theological opening for the new ecumenism and the Christian theology of religious pluralism.
Vigano and Schneider do not comment upon these points. When Vatican Council II is interpreted rationally Ad Gentes 7 says all need faith and baptism for salvation and there are no exceptions to AG 7 mentioned in the text of Vatican Council II.

ReplyDeleteBrother Thomas Augustine MICM, Superior, Slaves of the Immaculate Heart of Mary at the St.Benedict Center Still River, MA, USA, is in full communion with Bishop Robert McManus, the Bishop of Worcester, USA and the CDF since he interprets Vatican Council II with a false premise and inference to create a rupture with Tradition
Brother Thomas Augustine MICM, Superior,of the Slaves of the Immaculate Heart of Mary at the St.Benedict Center Still River, MA, USA, is in full communion with Bishop Robert McManus, the Bishop of Worcester, USA and the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, Vatican, since the community of traditionalists interpret Vatican Council II and the dogma extra ecclesiam nulla salus (EENS) with a false premise and inference to create a rupture with Tradition( Athanasius Creed, Syllabus of Errors etc).
They, the Slaves of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, condone the false interpretation of Bishop McManus, approved by the CDF, while they do not in public, affirm EENS and Vatican Council II without the false premise and inference.
So they are really saying that God wills a plurality of religions for salvation since there is known salvation outside the Church, mentioned in Vatican Council II, as interpreted by the Diocese of Worcester and the CDF.
About - Immaculate Heart of Mary School
Brother Andre Marie MICM too is teaching error : Bishop Sanborn ...
They also approve the 2016 Letter of the CDF 1 to Brother Andre Marie MICM, Prior, Slaves of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, St. Benedict Center, Richmond, NH, USA.It projected invisible and unknown cases of being saved in invincible ignorance( CCC 847-848) as known and visible exceptions to traditional EENS, as it was interpreted by the founders of their community, including Fr. Leonard Feeney.
Even the Lefbvrist traditionalists interpret EENS and Vatican Council II like the liberal bishop at Worcester.
TheSociety of St. Pius X(SSPX) does not seem to know about Vatican Council II without the false premise. So their doctrinal position, confusing.
Neither the SSPX or the SBC communities can affirm the Social Reign of Christ the King in all politics and legislation.Since the Cushingite Catholics, would tell them, that they interpret Vatican Council II(Cushingite) as a rupture with EENS(Feeneyite). So there is salvation outside the Catholic Church for them.-Lionel Andrades
