EWTN Press Release: What can be done to prevent shootings?

What Can Be Done To Prevent Shootings
Like the Tragedy in Fort Hood?

Rick Warren Talks Exclusively to EWTN's Raymond Arroyo
About His Mental Health Initiative In Collaboration With
Bishop Kevin Vann Of the Diocese of Orange, CA

Irondale, AL
Pastor Rick Warren of Saddleback Church in Southern California knows about the stigma that often follows those who seek treatment for mental illness. His own beloved son committed suicide -- and he and his wife say that their lives will never be the same.

However, in his pain Warren partnered with Bishop Kevin Vann of the Diocese of Orange, CA. to birth a mental health initiative so that those experiencing mental illness will know where to go for help -- and so that those to whom they are most likely to turn will know how to respond. Without initiatives like this, tragedies like the recent shooting in Ft. Hood by an Iraqi war veteran who was reportedly undergoing treatment for depression and anxiety are more likely to reoccur. A similar string of murders by a mentally ill gunman occurred at the same Army post in 2009.

Rick Warren and Bishop Kevin Vann talk exclusively to EWTN's Raymond Arroyo about mental illness and their mental health initiative on tonight's "World Over Live," at 8 p.m. ET on EWTN. Find EWTN at www.ewtn.com/channelfinder.
