This includes the fact the Catholic Church has encountered these things throughout its history and provided teachings on these matters to the faithful.

Could you imagine a nun taking her profession then announcing to her brother that she feels she is hermaphroditic and that the male sex predominates?

This happened to (Felix) Alexandra Becchelli (1709). The bishop assembled a team of medical doctors who examined her and then stated in their opinion she was right. Pope Benedict XIV discusses this case in his compendium "Thesaurus Resolutionum Sacræ Congregationis Concilii", the Church's scientific presentation of the accepted practice in the Church following the analysis of Bolognese canonist Huguccio who was famous for his influence on early Cannon law.

Pope Francis instructs we should be careful not to participate in spiritual worldliness. The Church has always known of human beings born with Intersex conditions. These humans have atypical sex development in one or more of the external genital morphology, internal genital morphology, chromosomal sex, and sex hormones.

Pope John Paul II in his book "Love and Responsibility" teaches: "Every human being is by nature a sexual being, and belongs from birth to one of the two sexes. This fact is not contradicted by the phenomenon of so-called hermaphroditism"

There is perhaps a teleological arc here in the transition from superstitious treatment of hermaphrodites to perhaps a benign neglect and even amusement or a certain spiritual worldliness around the so-called transgender. However, there is a better way.

Thomas J. O'Donnell, SJ, a one-time consultant to the UCCB wrote an authoritative book with the Imprimi Potest from the Church entitled "Medicine and Christian Morality". His insight follows: "Everyone has the right to be a member of one sex or the other. Recent medical literature reflects a much truer and healthier approach to the problem by referring to it in terms of unfinished sexual development."

The moral crisis is that patients who have fetuses diagnosed with a complicated sex determination on ultrasound state that their fear was so great that they made the parental decision to terminate pregnancies. If they read the article by Julie at Connecticut Catholic Corner, would they be more, or less likely to abort their fetus? Does it create a culture of death?

There is upwards of 73% pregnancy termination rate for cases of Intersex disorders in Europe between 2008-2012. In the US, there is a prevalence rate of between 160,045 - 213,394 human beings with an Intersex condition. By comparison, Down Syndrome prevalence in the US would be approximately 264,715.

But the living suffer too. The US FBI 2013 Hate Crime Statistics show 75 Anti-Catholic cases and 33 so-called "Gender Identity" cases. Based on the proportionate populations, we can say that the rate of Hate Crimes against so-called "transgender" victims is 98% worse than as against Catholic victims,

Don’t give the murderer from the beginning any foot hold by hating- which is murder committed in the heart. Whoever hates his brother or sister is a murderer. (1Jn. 3)

I have faith that Catholics will be awakened through our Church to the risks to these people because the Catholic Church is Christ's instrument and uses truth, justice, healing, reconciliation, compassion, kindness, humility and patience in carrying out His work.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1149438906545544596.post-9747355104320834892015-06-07T20:05:33.826-04:002015-06-07T20:05:33.826-04:00Also it takes hundreds of thousands of dollars for...Also it takes hundreds of thousands of dollars for surgeries and the ongoing lifetime hormone treatments to 'transform' someone into something they are not. And Still they will remain the gender they were born as. I knew a man trying to be a woman at a pharmacy where I worked. The hundreds of thousands of dollars were from taxpayer funds. He had to take hormones but still he was 6 ft tall, walked and talked like a man. Would not want to be in the ladies room with him even if he was wearing a skirt. This is a mental illness but no one will say it.M.
