Lesbians Denied Holy Communion

Great news!

A wonderful Catholic priest has denied Holy Communion from a couple in mortal sin.  Which mortal sin?  A homosexual relationship.  Another openly gay (lesbian) couple find themselves dismayed that a Catholic priest is behaving like a Catholic priest should.

Far too often, knowing clergy decide to turn a blind eye to openly gay couples and give them the Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of God without batting an eye to the fact that they KNOW the person is in mortal sin.

Would that same clergy feel perfectly right in giving HOLY Communion to a self proclaiming serial killer or rapist? How about to someone who walks up and blasphemies the name of God, then opens their mouth for Holy Communion?
Same thing.

No one is to have Holy Communion if they are in MORTAL SIN – no one.  Go to Confession, repent and then come before God to receive Holy Communion in a worthy state and manner.

1385 To respond to this invitation we must prepare ourselves for so great and so holy a moment. St. Paul urges us to examine our conscience: "Whoever, therefore, eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of profaning the body and blood of the Lord. Let a man examine himself, and so eat of the bread and drink of the cup. For any one who eats and drinks without discerning the body eats and drinks judgment upon himself."218 Anyone conscious of a grave sin must receive the sacrament of Reconciliation before coming to communion.
1395 By the same charity that it enkindles in us, the Eucharist preserves us from future mortal sins. The more we share the life of Christ and progress in his friendship, the more difficult it is to break away from him by mortal sin. The Eucharist is not ordered to the forgiveness of mortal sins - that is proper to the sacrament of Reconciliation. The Eucharist is properly the sacrament of those who are in full communion with the Church.

Notice that last bit there?  The Eucharist is for who???

THOSE IN FULL COMMUNION WITH THE CHURCH.  That is something these lesbians (and others) are woefully ignorant of.

That means, you MUST accept Church teaching and REPENT of what the Church defines as MORTAL SIN.

Homosexual relationships are MORTAL SIN.  Period.

In this case, an openly lesbian couple (Carol Parker and Josie Martin) had been happily attending a Catholic parish (St. Columban Catholic Church in Chillicothe, Mo.) for more than a decade without ever being told their relationship was a mortal sin.  When one of the lesbians’ mother died a ‘new to the parish’ priest Father Benjamin Kneib informed the lesbians that he would not give them Holy Communion during the funeral mass because they were in a state of mortal sin.

The lesbians were shocked and dismayed.  How could a priest dare to mention sin to them!  Imagine,  a priest discussing someone’s sin with them in the hopes of getting a person to repent! Makes one wonder just what they had been hearing in that parish prior to this new priest showing up.

Because apparently this has been unheard of at this parish until this point.

Unfortunately, the profoundly *stupid Catholics sitting in the pews either don’t know the teachings of the Catholic Church any better than these lesbians or they too like wallowing in sin and refuse to repent or acknowledge their own sins because this story just keeps going.

How did the pew sitting Catholics respond when they heard the lesbians would be denied the Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of Jesus Christ?

They turned up their noses at Jesus and refused Holy Communion themselves.
[these are the *stupid Catholics referenced above]

Can you imagine?  You turn down JESUS CHRIST in favor of two people in mortal sin!

Talk about blasphemous!

Jesus SUFFERED and DIED for these people and how do they treat Him?  They refuse Him in the Eucharist so they can support mortal sin and make fools of themselves in front of a Catholic priest fulfilling his mission in Christ.

God help them on Judgement Day.

Speaking of “judgement”…

How did the lesbians respond to the priests decision to refuse Communion to a couple in mortal sin?

They of course quoted Pope Francis, “Who am I to judge?” and reprimanded the priest for judging their sinful actions.

“That was our faith community. It really took away a lot of things for us,” Ms. Parker said. “He (Father Kneib) would still like to see us there, but I don’t feel like I’m welcome if I can’t take part in the main focus of the Mass.”She provided PROMO, a Kansas City-based advocacy organization for the LGBT community, with a Jan. 1 follow-up letter Father Kneib sent her in which he further explained his decision. According to a press release from the organization, the letter stated that “having a same-sex attraction is not sinful in and of itself ... it is only when a person moves from attraction to willfully acting upon it that the situation becomes a sinful matter.”Father Kneib also apologized to Ms. Parker that the events that had transpired took place at the time of her mother’s funeral. When contacted by the News-Press, Father Kneib had no comment.Ms. Parker said she hopes that the priest might “open his eyes and fully receive the LGBT community into the church.”We’re all God’s children, and we have every right to receive Communion,” she says. “Even the pope has said, ‘Who am I to judge?’”

Stupid Catholics.

You ONLY have the "right" to Holy Communion in the Catholic Church IF you are first in "full communion with the Church"- see catechism #1395.

Catholics you REALLY need to read your catechism and educate yourselves.

May God bless you greatly Father Kneib and give you GREAT STRENGTH to educate your flock and bring them to repentance before it’s too late.

Addition: To all the faithful Catholics in this parish, my comments were not meant towards you, but rather the people referenced in the original news article who decided to reject Jesus in the Eucharist in favor of standing beside mortal sin.  Gods blessing on you all.

In Christ,

Julie @ Connecticut Catholic Corner

  6. I appreciate the information. But the tone of this letter "stupid Catholics" is really hateful. I think self reflection is necessary. Before I knew what my mortal sins were I presented myself to our Lord in communion. It was only through His grace that I then realized that I needed to confess prior to receiving Him again. This post does nothing to foster the Love that Pope Francis is telling people about. How sad. I will pray for these women, parishioners and blogger.

  7. Well Kelly I don't really care if you think my tone is "hateful" because I am SICK TO DEATH of stupid Catholics who offend Jesus and then play the victim for sympathy.

There is NO excuse for any adult Catholic to NOT KNOW the Church's teachings on homosexuality and Holy Communion- if they don't know it, they ARE in fact stupid uneducated Catholics and need to turn off their televisions, put down their gadgets and read about their Catholic faith. They will have NO excuses when they stand before God one day. Shame on them all.

As for Pope Francis... he'd do the world much more good if he spent more time teaching Catholic moral teachings that the flock is so apparently ignorant of then talking about poverty which we are all well aware of- that is my opinion.

  8. I am a non-Catholic who stumbled upon this article on Facebook. I know Catholics consider homosexuality to be a sin, but the comparison of homosexuals to rapists and serial killers in this article really struck me. Rapists and serial killers obviously hurt others, and this is a terrible thing to do, but how exactly are homosexuals hurting others? Why is homosexuality a sin (there must be more depth to the answer than “Because the Bible says so.”)? I think most people would agree that religion should make people, and therefore the world they live in, better. And would any Catholic argue that acceptance, love and tolerance would make the world better? If so, why can’t Catholics at the very least tolerate homosexuals? I’m not asking these questions to be inflammatory, this is something I really don’t understand and I would love to hear some well-intentioned and productive answers.

  9. Welcome Leanne!

You ask fantastic questions and I hope I can adequately answer you. Please take a moment to look up the verses I mention so you can have a clearer understanding of why the Church believes what it does. :)

First, you need to understand that the Catholic belief in the Eucharist is that it IS the Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of Jesus Christ (John 6:55)and NO ONE is allowed to receive Christ when they are in mortal sin.

Mortal sin separates us from God. If we do not repent of mortal sin we go to hell for eternity.

So for Catholics, it is VITAL to our faith to confess our sins, for our salvation AND to never receive Christ when we have mortal sin on our souls.(1 Cor.11 is about Holy Communion, check out verse 27 in different bible verses to see how serious this is)

The reason homosexual relationships are 'harmful' is they are the DAMNATION of a human soul (all mortal sin is such as the murder I mentioned in the article). At the end of our lives we got to either Heaven or Hell for eternity.

If a person dies in mortal sin, they are going to Hell forever. Period. That is what is so harmful about homosexual relationships- the damn people eternally. And according to Romans 1:32 anyone who supports these sins ALSO is guilty of it even if they don't actually commit the sin themselves. This is why NO Catholic can EVER support homosexual relationships/unions/marriages - they are putting their own salvation at risk.

The Catholic Church's mission is to lead souls to Christ and eternal salvation (Matt.28:19-20). This is why the Church will always fight against sin and call on people to repent and live in accordance with God's Will and not our own.

As far as "tolerant" goes, we are. What we are not tolerant of is self professing Catholics who abuse the Sacraments. If homosexual couples OUTSIDE the Church want to have communion somewhere else that is their business. But what happens IN a Catholic parish IS the Catholic Church's business.

I hope I've answered your questions.

    God bless.

    In Christ,
    Julie @ Connecticut Catholic Corner

  10. I should have added bible verse 1 Cor.11:29

This verse is very telling in just about any bible version you look at, so you can take your pick.

    http://biblehub.com/1_corinthians/11-29.htm

    Here are a few...

    Aramaic Bible in Plain English
"For whoever eats and drinks from it being unworthy, eats and drinks a guilty verdict into his soul for not distinguishing the body of THE LORD JEHOVAH."

    American King James Version
"For he that eats and drinks unworthily, eats and drinks damnation to himself, not discerning the Lord's body."

    American Standard Version
"For he that eateth and drinketh, eateth and drinketh judgment unto himself, if he discern not the body."

    GOD'S WORD® Translation
"Anyone who eats and drinks is eating and drinking a judgment against himself when he doesn't recognize the Lord's body."

    Douay-Rheims Bible
"For he that eateth and drinketh unworthily, eateth and drinketh judgment to himself, not discerning the body of the Lord."

Anyone who eats the Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of Jesus Christ with mortal sin on their souls is putting damnation/judgement on themselves. This is why the Catholic Church REQUIRES Catholics to go to Confession BEFORE having Holy Communion. The Church is trying to PROTECT us and our salvation.

If the Eucharist (John 6:55) wasn't truly Christ's Body, then there is no way eating mere bread while you haven't confessed a sin would bring about the damnation of a soul. But because we are NOT eating bread, but the Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of Jesus Christ we MUST be free from mortal sin- mortal is the key word here that tells it all.

  11. This is helpful, thank you for taking the time to explain. While I personally don’t subscribe to your point of view, I can see now how the Catholic belief system would drive the type of opinions I see represented in your article and the comments. I’m curious how much critical thought most Catholics give to the positions of the church. Have you ever wondered whether certain things that are categorized as sins really should be? And do you think it could ever be more important to be compassionate than to be right? This might be awkward territory since so much of the religion seems to be based on following a certain code of conduct in order to ensure an eternity in Heaven. Still, one would certainly hope that subscription to such a rigorous doctrine would not be undertaken just because this is what one was told is true, rather only after deep reflection and a conscious decision that one truly believes in it. Again, I hope this sounds respectful and appreciate your thorough responses.

  12. Leanne you have been most respectful in your questions and I welcome them.

I can't speak for other Catholics, but as for myself, I do extensive research into Catholic theology - that is why I became Catholic. You see, I wasn't always Catholic. It was through years of research that I found the Truth of the Catholic Church (I know nonCatholics will disagree there, but this is how it happened for me).

The teachings of the Catholic Church are the oldest Christian teachings in the world, they are dated back over 2,000 years and they still stand true today. I don't mean to offend anyone who might be reading this, but if someone studies the Reformers and what they believed a few hundred years ago, the current protestant denominations they founded don't teach what the original founders taught/believed. They have morphed over time.

This hasn't happened with the Catholic Church.

I am sure someone will want to toss out some Catholic doctrine at me, go ahead and I will be more than happy to share the history of it in the Catholic faith. Perhaps I will make a new discussion just for those topics.

As far as being "right" or "compassionate", I think teaching the 'right' (correct) theology IS being compassionate. Again, going back to the article, if no one tells people what mortal sin is and the need to repent of it, are they loving that person? Are they being compassionate in ALLOWING that person to continue in mortal sin and end up in Hell for eternity?

    I don't think so.

It is my opinion that FAR TOO MANY people (including Catholic clergy) today are afraid of offending someone's feelings rather than worrying about saving their souls.

I don't care if someone's feelings are hurt because I was harsh in my words if in the end I've given them something to think about that just might one day help them see the need to repent of mortal sin so they don't toss out their salvation.

I am more concerned with where a person ends up eternally than offending them on earth because I told them they are sinners needing to repent.

  13. Leanne- it's not that homosexuality itself is evil (the state of being attracted to someone of the same sex is not a sin) it's that extramarital sex is a sin. Sex is reserved only for married couples, because sex was created to produce children. Only heterosexual couples can have children, and only married heterosexual couples can provide the stability of a home to those children. Therefore, the Church asks that everyone, no matter their inclination, abstain from extramarital sex, for the good of humanity as a whole.

  17. Did the priest know for a fact that this woman was in state of mortal sin? Having same sex attraction and living together is not in and of itself a mortal sin. Unless the priest had been in their bedroom or had been told by them personally that they were "active" how could he presume to deny them? I personally know same sex couples who are living as roommates, have gone to confession, and are living in a state of grace. It's a struggle for them I'm sure but that's the miracle of grace. Let's not make presumptions based on appearances... I think that is the message that pope Francis is teaching and that we should embrace it as Catholics. The mercy of God is infinite and all of us as sinners are redeemed by it every second of our lives.

  18. We are blessed to have Fr. Kneib as our pastor! Stand Strong Fr.! Thank you for adding a positive light to this which the local and I'm sure National press is not. However, as a practicing Catholic at this parish, I do take offense at some of your blanket statements about the parishioners. We have not lived here for a very long while, but as far as we know, only one of them is actually a Catholic. We have had solid Catholic priests at our parish and as far as we know, the previous priests were probably not aware of this situation. I did not attend the funeral, however, if I had, this would not have stopped me from receiving Jesus at Holy Communion. I don't believe many of the parishioners I know would have refused to receive Holy Communion to stand in solidarity either. I think that part is being blown out of proportion.

We have a beautiful church and again are blessed to have a good priest. If you are ever in NW MO make a stop by to see the church, you won't be disappointed, one of the most beautiful in the good Diocese of KC/St.Joe. Again, thanks for your positive remarks of Fr. Kneib.

  19. I thank God for Fr Kneib . We're called to hate the sin and not the sinner . People misunderstand either deliberately or by ignorance Pope Francis and the bible verse : " judge not lest you be judged " . Common sense says we all make judgements all the time or else how can we judge to do the same or not ? Even when we say " don't judge " is a judgement itself . When someone says this sin or that sin isn't or is a sin we're making a judgement .
