The Bachelorette reminds me of how grateful I am to be Catholic

I have watched several seasons (not all) of The Bachelor/Bachelorette on and off over the years. I am not watching this season however because I did watch the previous season where viewers were first introduced to Hannah Brown whom in my opinion is about as intelligent as a bag of rocks and more boring than watching grass grow.

Try as I might to avoid Brown, a tweet on Twitter from Pat Robertson's CBN caught my eye.

Hannah Brown, the "Christian" single woman having sex and looking for a husband on ABC's reality show "The Bachelorette" has declared "I am having physical relationships," and "The Lord made sex to be amazing!"

Apparently, this self professed Christian believes fornication is perfectly acceptable to our Lord because, get this, "I can do whatever. I sin daily, and Jesus still loves me. It's all washed, and if the Lord doesn't judge me and it's all forgiven, then no other man, woman, animal -- anything, I don't know! -- can judge me!"

I've heard this before years ago when I first became Catholic and protestant "friends" on social media were trying to talk me out of being Catholic. They attempted to correct me about going to Confession for my sins by telling me "It's all washed!". Poof! the moment Jesus died on the cross all my sins past, present and future were already washed away so I could sin daily and not worry about it. No need to repent.

To this day it shocks me that people who claim to love Jesus feel their sinning is harmless and acceptable to God because Jesus loves them. Brown doesn't deny fornication is a sin, she just justifies her sin by saying "Jesus loves me" and "the Lord doesn't judge me". Where in the world did she get that from?

She is shocked by the responses she is getting from the Christian world after she went naked bungee-jumping with one of the bachelors on the show competing for her hand in marriage.

I don't know what denomination Hannah belongs to, reports merely describe her as "a devout Christian". 👀🤦 Whoever is 'teaching' her about Christianity is either confused or diabolical and purposely leading her toward Hell rather than Heaven.

What part of Christianity teaches naked bungee-jumping is appropriate at any time- let alone with two people who barely (no pun intended) know each other while a film crew records it and millions of viewers watch? Or that suddenly fornication is acceptable to God because Jesus loves us? People often forget that the woman found in fornication about to be stoned to death (John 8:3-11) was told to "sin no more" by Jesus. He didn't tell her "Hey, you can continue fornicating because I love you, it's all good." Rather he called out her sin and told her to stop. Same with the invalid at the pool (John 5:1-15) when Jesus said to him, "Behold thou art made whole: sin no more, lest some worse thing happen to thee."
Quote: She [Hannah Brown] told ET she feels "blessed" that producers decided to showcase Christianity on her season. "A lot of times, people get Christianity and religion messed up. Your faith should be something personal in a relationship and it's not to judge others," the Alabama native expressed. "Christianity is something you welcome others into. It should be a place where people feel safe and welcomed... and not to feel judged or shamed."
The irony of that statement. 🤦

Besides my frustration at this type of attitude I am mostly angry. I was really, really angry when I found the Truth in Catholicism because at that moment I knew that almost everything I thought I knew about Christianity was a lie. I had been lied to, my non-Catholic family had been lied to for generations and so many of them died in those lies. Makes me mad- furious really.

I pray daily for the conversion of sinners. I pray for the blind to see because once not too long ago I was one of those blind idiots stumbling around in protestantism thinking just because I loved Jesus I was saved and had nothing to fear or worry about. I was a fool. I had been fed lies and believed them.

Thank you Jesus for answering my prayers and bringing me home to your Holy Catholic Church. I am ever so grateful.
🙏

In Christ,

#FlashbackFriday: The Catholic Church Then and Now

This is a new feature you will see more of on my blog. As a collector of old Catholic books (100+ years old) I have quite a collection to read from.

These books clearly show how the Catholic Church used to be- how and what it taught in comparison to what we sadly see today after modernism entered and tipped the scales. So they have inspired me to start a "Then and Now" feature.

I will be sharing what I am reading in them and on the Internet while comparing what is currently being taught in our Church - more specifically the teachings and views that showed up in the 1960's and afterwards in our Church. There are some big differences in these teachings, and I admit as a convert who 100% believed the Church didn't change Her teachings, reading these old Catholic books (published by the Church mind you) and listening to today's clergy and reading what I see on the U.S. Bishops website...how can anyone think the Church hasn't changed what She used to teach compared to what She is currently teaching?

Please read these "Then and Now" quotes and tell me the Catholic Church's teaching hasn't changed on this topic. I'd love to hear comments from everyone, most especially clergy or religious.

Today’s focus is on Islam.

Then:

COUNCIL OF VIENNE (1311-1312)

[25]. It is an insult to the holy name and a disgrace to the Christian faith that in certain parts of the world subject to Christian princes where Saracens[followers of Islam] live, sometimes apart, sometimes intermingled with Christians, the Saracen priests commonly called Zabazala, in their temples or mosques, in which the Saracens meet to adore the infidel Mahomet, loudly invoke and extol his name each day at certain hours from a high place, in the hearing of both Christians and Saracens and there make public declarations in his honour. There is a place, moreover, where once was buried a certain Saracen whom other Saracens venerate as a saint. A great number of Saracens flock there quite openly from far and near. This brings disrepute on our faith and gives great scandal to the faithful. These practices cannot be tolerated any further without displeasing the divine majesty. We therefore, with the sacred council's approval, strictly forbid such practices henceforth in Christian lands. We enjoin on catholic princes, one and all, who hold sovereignty over the said Saracens and in whose territory these practices occur, and we lay on them a pressing obligation under the divine judgment that, as true Catholics and zealous for the Christian faith, they give consideration to the disgrace heaped on both them and other Christians. They are to remove this offence altogether from their territories and take care that their subjects remove it, so that they may thereby attain the reward of eternal happiness. They are to forbid expressly the public invocation of the sacrilegious name of Mahomet. They shall also forbid anyone in their dominions to attempt in future the said pilgrimage or in any way give countenance to it. Those who presume to act otherwise are to be so chastised by the princes for their irreverence, that others may be deterred from such boldness.

Council of Basel 1431-45 A.D.

SESSION 19 - 7 September 1434

“They urge and daily stimulate us in a wonderful way to pursue this holy work, strongly and persistently affirming two things: that union is only possible in a universal synod in which both the western church and the eastern church meet, and that union will assuredly follow if matters proceed in that synod in the way that is agreed below. We were filled with joy and gladness when we heard this. For what happier and more glorious thing could ever happen to the catholic church than that so many eastern peoples, who seem to be about equal in number to those of our faith, should be joined with us in the unity of faith? What could be more useful and fruitful to the Christian people, since the beginning of the church, than for an inveterate and destructive schism to be completely eradicated? Moreover, we trust that with God's help another benefit will accrue to the Christian commonwealth; because from this union, once it is established, there is hope that very many from the abominable sect of Mahomet will be converted to the catholic faith. What, then, should not be attempted and done by Christ's faithful for so holy and salutary an objective? What Catholic is not in duty bound to risk not only the passing substance of this world but even his body and soul for such an advance of the Christian name and the orthodox faith?”

Fifth Lateran Council 1512-17 A.D.

SESSION 12 - 16 March 1517

We are suitably carrying out the duty of our office when we renew again that reform of the whole church and its affairs which we have accomplished with profit; when we plan to apply suitable remedies for the unchallenged observance of the reform and to make provision for cathedrals and metropolitan churches so that they may no longer be without their pastors; and when we supervise these remedies with ever-present attention and untiring efforts, by means of which we may be able to render the Lord's flock, which has been entrusted to our care, acceptable and submissive in the sight of the divine majesty. Our aim is also to crush the Turks and other infidels standing firm in the eastern and southern regions. They treat the way of true light and salvation with complete contempt and totally unyielding blindness; they attack the life-giving cross on which our Saviour willed to accept death so that by dying he might destroy death, and by the ineffable mystery of his most holy life he might restore life; and they make themselves hateful enemies of God and most bitter persecutors of the christian religion. Strengthened by defences not only spiritual but also temporal, we may be able, under God's guidance and favour, to oppose the bitter and frequent sallies by which, in wild rage, they move savagely amidst christian blood .

Encyclical of Pope Benedict XIV promulgated on August 1, 1754.

To Our Venerable Brothers the Archbishops and Bishops as well as Our Beloved Sons, the Parish Priests and Missionaries of the Province of Albania.

Venerable Brothers and Beloved Sons, We give you Greeting and Our Apostolic Blessing.

Forbidding Use of Mohammedan Names

The Provincial Council of your province of Albania, Venerable Brothers and Beloved Sons, was held in the year 1703 during the pontificate of Our predecessor Pope Clement XI. It decreed most solemnly in its third canon, among other matters, as you know, that Turkish or Mohammedan names should not be given either to children or adults in baptism. It also decreed that the faithful of Christ should not allow themselves to be called by Turkish or Mohammedan names which they had never received, for the purpose of either exemption or immunity from taxes, or the advantage of free trading, or avoiding penalties. We have confirmed and commanded the observance of this decree in Our encyclical letter Inter omnigenas, addressed to the kingdom of Serbia and its neighbouring regions. This encyclical letter, covering many subjects of religion and discipline, was published on the 2nd of February 1744 in the fourth year of Our pontificate. This prudent and saving statute was established by your predecessors with great wisdom and devotion as a shining example of your Catholic faith and sincere Christian piety; in our 1744 encyclical, We strictly ordered it to be imitated and fully observed by other churches. Just as adhering to it clearly results in the greater fame and reputation of your province and in greater benefits for securing the eternal salvation of souls, so if it should be neglected, it would greatly dishonor your province and openly endanger these souls.

In Our letter mentioned above, We designated that abuse as a cowardly concealment of the Christian profession, approaching infidelity. Since then, We have learned with great mental anguish that many people in that province continue to take Turkish or Mohammedan names despite the consideration of their eternal salvation. They do so not only in order to be immune and free from those taxes and burdens which have often been and continue to be imposed on the faithful of Christ, but also in order that neither they themselves nor their parents may be thought to have abandoned the Mohammedan sect, thereby avoiding the requisite penalties. For all this cannot take place without a pretense of the errors of Mohammed, even if the faith of Christ is adhered to in the heart, and this is at variance with Christian sincerity. It involves a lie in a most serious matter and includes a virtual denial of the Faith, most insulting to God and scandalous to their neighbors. It even gives the Turks themselves a suitable opportunity to rate all Christ's faithful as hypocrites and deceivers, and accordingly to persecute them justly and deservedly.

2. Our sorrow and anguish is further increased by the fact that some of you yourselves, venerable brothers, and of you also, beloved sons, parish priests and missionaries, take no measures against so vile and hateful a pretense. In fact, some of you even connive at it; by being impressed by empty motives to find excuses for sins, you do not hesitate to allow those who take common Turkish or Mohammedan names and desire to be addressed by them, to partake of the Sacraments with no pang of conscience at all, to the public offense of the obedient faithful.

3. We who are entrusted with the care of all the churches and the supreme administration of the sacred Apostolate; in this capacity, We are obliged to lead all Christians back to the way of salvation and to present them to God pure and sincere, walking in the spirit and in truth without stain. We have heard Our Venerable Brothers, the Cardinals of the Holy Roman Church, who are general Inquisitors for evil heresy on this subject. In accordance with their advice, We first renew and confirm by Our Apostolic authority in this letter the praiseworthy canon of the council of your province of Albania, and We command that it be strictly observed. Also We extend the decrees of Our church by the same authority and uniformity to include your province; We equally strictly prohibit any of Christ's faithful from daring to take Turkish or Mohammedan names in order to be considered Mohammedans, in any case, under any pretext, or in any conceivable circumstances.

4. Furthermore, venerable brothers and beloved sons, We ask and urge you in the Lord to think seriously about your ministry and the strict account you will have to give to the Eternal Judge Jesus Christ, the Supreme Prince of Pastors, for the sheep entrusted to each one of you; to this end, We urge you to take personal care by your good works that your election will be assured. Since it would be very careless and negligent on your part not to, do not fail to patiently convince, implore, and exhort the faithful of Christ in your Province to lead a good life among the nations. Urge them in all affairs to conduct themselves so as to be an example of good works in order that those who oppose them may be chagrined since they have nothing evil to say of them, and they cannot accuse them of being evildoers who for the sake of base gain profess one thing with their lips while believing differently in their hearts. But if they do not accept your warnings and Our commands, they must be compelled by the rod to follow the norm of Apostolic discipline. The sanctions and penalties provided for by your Albanian council and by Our letter mentioned above must be fully applied in their case: that is, they must be declared unfit to receive the Sacraments in their lifetime, and if they die unrepentant, to benefit from prayers after death. Insofar as it is necessary, We renew and reapply these penalties; We enjoin you to ensure their due execution. This should not be hard for any one of you, venerable brothers and beloved sons, for none of the schismatics and heretics has been rash enough to take a Mohammedan name, and unless your justice abounds more than theirs, you shall not enter the kingdom of Heaven.

5. Finally, gravely advise those who have converted from Mohammedanism or the children of such converts, if they lack confidence in their constancy in the Faith, fearing punishment by their rulers if they abandon their Turkish names, to emigrate secretly from those territories and come for refuge to Christian lands. There they shall in no way lack the help of God who gives food to all flesh, or the charity of the faithful, especially if their Bishops provide them with letters of recommendation. In the meantime, We lovingly grant you Our Apostolic Blessing, venerable brothers and beloved sons, and We desire each Venerable Brother Bishop to extend it in Our name to all the orthodox faithful of Christ in his own diocese.
Given at Rome in St. Mary Major on the first day of August, 1754, in the fourteenth year of Our Pontificate.

CONTRA GENTILES

By Thomas Aquinas - On the Truth of the Catholic Faith

[4] On the other hand, those who founded sects committed to erroneous doctrines proceeded in a way that is opposite to this, The point is clear in the case of Muhammad. He seduced the people by promises of carnal pleasure to which the concupiscence of the flesh goads us. His teaching also contained precepts that were in conformity with his promises, and he gave free rein to carnal pleasure. In all this, as is not unexpected, he was obeyed by carnal men. As for proofs of the truth of his doctrine, he brought forward only such as could be grasped by the natural ability of anyone with a very modest wisdom. Indeed, the truths that he taught he mingled with many fables and with doctrines of the greatest falsity. He did not bring forth any signs produced in a supernatural way, which alone fittingly gives witness to divine inspiration; for a visible action that can be only divine reveals an invisibly inspired teacher of truth. On the contrary, Muhammad said that he was sent in the power of his arms—which are signs not lacking even to robbers and tyrants. What is more, no wise men, men trained in things divine and human, believed in him from the beginning, Those who believed in him were brutal men and desert wanderers, utterly ignorant of all divine teaching, through whose numbers Muhammad forced others to become his followers by the violence of his arms. Nor do divine pronouncements on the part of preceding prophets offer him any witness. On the contrary, he perverts almost all the testimonies of the Old and New Testaments by making them into fabrications of his own, as can be. seen by anyone who examines his law. It was, therefore, a shrewd decision on his part to forbid his followers to read the Old and New Testaments, lest these books convict him of falsity. It is thus clear that those who place any faith in his words believe foolishly. [Book One]

Now:

Second Vatican Council, Lumen Gentium 16, November 21, 1964

“But the plan of salvation also includes those who acknowledge the Creator, in the first place among whom are the Muslims: these profess to hold the faith of Abraham, and together with us they adore the one, merciful God, mankind’s judge on the last day.”

~

Paul VI, address to the Islamic communities of Uganda, August 1, 1969

“In our prayers, we always remember the peoples of Africa. The common belief in the Almighty professed by millions calls down upon this continent the graces of his Providence and love, most of all, peace and unity among all its sons. We feel sure that as representatives of Islam, you join in our prayers to the Almighty, that he may grant all African believers the desire for pardon and reconciliation so often commended in the Gospels and in the Qur’an.
“Our pilgrimage to these holy places is not for purposes of prestige or power. It is a humble and ardent prayer for peace, through the intercession of the glorious protectors of Africa, who gave up their lives for love and for their belief. In recall the Catholic and Anglican Martyrs, We gladly recall also those confessors of the Muslim faith who were the first to suffer death, in the year 1848, for refusing to transgress the precepts of their religion.”

John Paul II, address to a symposium on “Holiness in Christianity and in Islam,” Rome, May 9, 1985

“All true holiness comes from God, who is called ‘The Holy One’ in the sacred books of the Jews, Christians, and Muslims. Your holy Qur’an calls God ‘Al-Quddus,’ as in the verse: ‘He is God, besides whom there is no other, the Sovereign, the Holy, the (source of) Peace’ (Qur’an 59, 23). The prophet Hosea links God’s holiness with his forgiving love for mankind, a love which surpasses our ability to comprehend: ‘I am God, not man; I am the Holy One in your midst and have no wish to destroy’ (Ho 11:9). In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus teaches his disciples that holiness consists in assuming, in our human way, the qualities of God’s own holiness which he has revealed to mankind: ‘Be holy, even as your heavenly Father is holy’ (Mt 5:48).
“Thus the Qur’an calls you to uprightness (al-salah), to conscientious devotion (al-taqwa), to goodness (al-husn), and to virtue (al-birr), which is described as believing in God, giving one’s wealth to the needy, freeing captives, being constant in prayer, keeping one’s word, and being patient in times of suffering, hardship and violence (Qur’an 2:177). Similarly, St. Paul stresses the love we must show toward all, and the duty to lead a blameless life in the sight of God: ‘May the Lord be generous in increasing your love and make you love one another and the whole human race as much as we love you. And may he so confirm your hearts in holiness that you may be blameless in the sight of our God and Father when our Lord Jesus Christ comes with all his saints’ (1 Th 3:12-13).”

Evangelii Gaudium, Apostolic Exhortation of Pope Francis, 2013

252. Our relationship with the followers of Islam has taken on great importance, since they are now significantly present in many traditionally Christian countries, where they can freely worship and become fully a part of society. We must never forget that they “profess to hold the faith of Abraham, and together with us they adore the one, merciful God, who will judge humanity on the last day”.[198] The sacred writings of Islam have retained some Christian teachings; Jesus and Mary receive profound veneration and it is admirable to see how Muslims both young and old, men and women, make time for daily prayer and faithfully take part in religious services. Many of them also have a deep conviction that their life, in its entirety, is from God and for God. They also acknowledge the need to respond to God with an ethical commitment and with mercy towards those most in need.

253. In order to sustain dialogue with Islam, suitable training is essential for all involved, not only so that they can be solidly and joyfully grounded in their own identity, but so that they can also acknowledge the values of others, appreciate the concerns underlying their demands and shed light on shared beliefs. We Christians should embrace with affection and respect Muslim immigrants to our countries in the same way that we hope and ask to be received and respected in countries of Islamic tradition. I ask and I humbly entreat those countries to grant Christians freedom to worship and to practice their faith, in light of the freedom which followers of Islam enjoy in Western countries! Faced with disconcerting episodes of violent fundamentalism, our respect for true followers of Islam should lead us to avoid hateful generalisations, for authentic Islam and the proper reading of the Koran are opposed to every form of violence.

Has the Catholic Church changed Her teaching on Islam?  What happened?

Which do we believe? What was taught then for centuries, or has been taught since “the spirit of Vatican II” was spread?

You tell me if you think the Church has changed it’s teachings. Please sound off in the comments or emails.

P.S. There is still a voice in the Church who hasn’t forgotten our Catholic history with Islam, his name is Cardinal Burke. ( http://www.catholicregister.org/home/international/item/22739-u-s-cardinal-says-christian-nations-in-west-must-counter-islamic-influx )

I wish Mel Gibson had done it...

...the continuing story of Jesus Christ after he was placed in the tomb.

The movie is "Risen"...

Whatever you think of Mel Gibson, his "The Passion of the Christ" movie was spectacular...at least in my opinion. I wish Gibson had done this movie and continued the story.  This looks good...but I just don't know if it will hold up to "The Passion of the Christ".

God's GREATEST joy is when people are happy, happy, happy!

Flipping through a mountain of emails today, I came across an email with a link to a story from the HuffPost Live hosted by Marc Lamont Hill about the televangelist Victoria Osteen (wife to the well known Joel Osteen).

Apparently one of Victoria Osteen's summer sermons has just now gone viral and people are finally speaking up about the sheer nuttiness of the beliefs held by these people and their followers.

Here is what she said...(emphasis mine)

Try reading this with the background song "Don't worry, be happy" playing in your head- I seriously think she must have been listening to that song when she came up with this sermon/theology/ideology.

"When we obey God, we're NOT doing it for God - I mean, that's one way to look at it.  But we're doing it for our self!  Because God takes pleasure when we're happy!  That's the thing that gives Him THE GREATEST JOY this morning.  So I want you to know this morning, just do good FOR YOUR OWN SELF.  Do good cause God wants you to be happy.  When you come to church, WHEN YOU COME TO WORSHIP HIM you're NOT doing it for God really - you're doing it for yourself!  Amen!"

Yeah, she REALLY said all that, and yes she and others really believe it.  And I guess she's just being honest about those mega churches... it really is just about themselves.  It's about how THEY feel, it isn't about worshiping God- Osteen admits it.

God's "greatest joy" is when people are feeling happy?

Guess that means God is tickled pink with fornicators- cause we all know how happy they are frolicking in mortal sin.  How about all those rapists having a good old time raping?  Murderers, murdering?  Liars, lying?  Thieves, thieving?  Happy, happy, happy!

I never heard Jesus preach "The GREATEST joy my Father in Heaven has is when everyone is happy, happy, happy!  So don't obey my Father in Heaven because He said so, do it for yourselves!"

Where's that in the Bible?

A few quotes from the HuffPost interview:

Rick Henderson (Protestant pastor): "I'm not saying they're not Christians, BUT..." :)

Steve Camp (Protestant Pastor): "Victoria is sweet but uninformed" and "immature but sincere" - he also goes on to mention she's a good example of why women aren't supposed to be pastors.

May God save them from their happy selves.

Feminist video of little girls highly offensive [graphic warning]

[Warning: graphic language]

This should be hard to watch for decent people- especially decent Catholic and all Christian parents.

This is a video promotion to sell liberal/LBGT/feminist/gaylove/equality t-shirts using little girls dropping the f-bomb and other vile language.

Who are these vile people?
They are "FCKH8.COM"...

What does the mainline entertainment media think of this offensive video?  They don't find these little girls yelling obscenities offensive, oh no.  They agree with the video that the words "inequality" is what is offensive.

EOnline states:

Warning: What you hear in this video may shock you.But we're not talking about the fact that these little girls (ages 6 to 13) are swearing like sailors. We're talking about the phrases they are using regarding gender inequality.
In a video produced by FCKH8.com starring the "Potty-Mouthed Princesses,"
young girls all dolled up in pastel gowns drop F-bombs to remind everyone that society shouldn't be offended by curse words; we should be offended by the fact that women are still paid 23 percent less than men in the work force and the fact that one in five women is sexually assaulted or raped.

At least the readers of EOnline showed they have a brain.  See their comments...

Why isn't this child abuse?

Earlier this year, a swearing toddler was taken into Child Protective Services because of a video made and posted on Facebook of the child repeating profanities and the adults around him laughing.

This was enough to send in Child Protective Services to take the toddler and the other children from the home.

A Nebraska toddler who repeated a slew of profanities in an online video has been taken into child protective custody, Omaha police said Wednesday.
While authorities found nothing criminal in the video, officials from the Omaha police's Child Victim Unit and the Nebraska Child Protective Services took the infant and three other children into custody on Wednesday, the police department said on its Facebook page.
In the "Potty Mouth Princesses" video these children are being used (with their parents full support) to use horrible profanity all in the name of "FEMINISM".  I was asking myself "What were their parents thinking to allow their daughters to do such a horrible thing?"... the answer is they aren't really 'parents'.  This isn't parenting a child.  This is manipulating, corrupting and using a child.  It's child abuse, though I doubt our secular society will see it that way.

Tragic.  These poor little girls.  What monsters they have for 'parents'.

For a Catholic view of feminism how it should be, I suggest reading Pope Benedict's "Holy Women".

The Catholic Church could take lessons from Duck Dynasty's Phil Robertson

Wake up Catholic Church, there is a lesson you could learn here.

Duck Dynasty’s patriarch Phil Robertson isn’t a man to waste words, he says it like it is and stands by his faith and he uses Sacred Scripture to back up what he professes as his faith.  How many Catholic clergy and religious do the same?

When Pope Francis said “Who am I to judge?” at WYD on the issue of homosexuality the world went into a tailspin because they didn’t understand what he meant.  The progressives and liberals thought he’d just given the thumbs up to gay marriage.  Conservative traditionalist cried out in a deafening sigh because they KNEW progressives and liberals would take that exact meaning.   Did Pope Francis clarify?  Did he teach with scriptures exactly what the Catholic Church has to say about homosexual relationship and WHY [i.e. Sacred Scripture]? Nope.

On the other hand, Phil Robertson continues to speak clearly on his faith, what the Bible says and WHY he and his family have the faith they do.

Two faithful men speaking about the same issue- one clearly and one that caused so much confusion that the Bishops had to make the media rounds for weeks to clarify that the Church hadn't changed its position on gay marriage.

““I want to tell you something. What is it that I expect as a consequence of World Youth Day? I want a mess. We knew that in Rio there would be great disorder, but I want trouble in the dioceses!”

So far there are crickets in Catholic dioceses.

Not so with Phil Robertson!

Let’s take a closer look at exactly WHAT Phil Robertson said and WHERE did he get that view from?

“Everything is blurred on what’s right and what’s wrong… Sin becomes fine. Start with homosexual behavior and just morph out from there. Bestiality, sleeping around with this woman and that woman and that woman and those men.” –Stop here for a moment-

Anyone paying attention to Christianity today can SEE what Robertson is talking about when he says “everything is blurred on what is right and what’s wrong…Sin becomes fine”.

How true!  Just LOOK at some protestant churches [link at bottom] in the last few decades-they are VOTING on what is sin and what is not sin.  What was once called wrong in their own denominations has now been voted on and suddenly considered ‘right’.  And if the vote goes against the gay marriage supporters they split off their own denomination, take a new vote and make a new denomination that will not tell them anything they don’t want to hear.

Phil Robertson is 100% CORRECT!

Phil next goes on to show how one sin morphs into another.  Again he’s right.  It’s really no different than the studies that show how using marijuana often leads to more hardcore drugs. Same with sin, it continues and grows. Once you are desensitized to something that hurdle is passed, you move on to the next and the next.  When it comes to sin, this is why we (Christians) are REQUIRED to REPENT from the sin- not accept it or tell people it’s no longer a sin!

Repenting means not only admitting it was a sin, but also promising to turn AWAY from that sin.  When people redefine what sin is, they no longer turn from it, instead they welcome the sin with open arms and call it “love and tolerance”- that is NOT biblical and that (I believe) is exactly what Phil Robertson said in his interview.

This leads to another problem we have in society - uneducated Christians.

When people and the media heard his next words they went hog wild CRAZY!  They seemed to think it was Phil Robertson who linked gay sex with bestiality and fornication/adultery- guess what?  That didn’t come from Phil Robertson, he was once again referencing God’s word in the Bible [you know, that book Christians are supposed to believe].

Robertson was referencing God’s word about the punishments of assorted sexual sins found in Leviticus 20 of the Bible. [Since Robertson is a protestant, I will quote the NIV protestant bible here]

From Leviticus 20 -13“‘If a man has sexual relations with a man as one does with a woman, both of them have done what is detestable. They are to be put to death; their blood will be on their own heads.
14“‘If a man marries both a woman and her mother, it is wicked. Both he and they must be burned in the fire, so that no wickedness will be among you.
15“‘If a man has sexual relations with an animal, he is to be put to death, and you must kill the animal.
16‘If a woman approaches an animal to have sexual relations with it, kill both the woman and the animal. They are to be put to death; their blood will be on their own heads.

God put ALL these sexual sins TOGETHER in the Bible - NOT Phil Robertson.

The issue here is that Robertson is educated in the Bible verses and much of our society is not.  They are floundering minions who lap up whatever garbage the media spits at them. Even self professing Christians seemed shocked to hear what Robertson said, as if they'd never read or heard these Scriptures before.  That is a problem, a very big problem.

IF the Catholic Church (and other Christian denominations) were PROPERLY teaching what the Sacred Scriptures said, this wouldn't have been such a news story.  It would have been a little bleep "Another Christian quotes the Bible against gay marriage".  Period.

But that didn't happen because far too many self professing Christians have NO IDEA what the Bible says about much of anything.  Pathetic.

Clearly what Robertson said in his GQ Magazine interview is DIRECTLY from the Bible- God’s word.  He said it because he believes the Bible.  Yes, most of us know that this is the Old Covenant and we do not dole out these punishments, but that does not mean the things listed are no longer sins! And NO ONE is calling for gays to be 'put to death'- we [Christians] are now under the New Covenant not the Old.  Clearly God DID call for that punishment in the Old Testament under the Old Covenant given to the Jewish people, but that is not what New Covenant Christians are called to.  We don't dole out the punishments, we are suppose to TEACH the Faith.  That is our commission from Christ (Matt.28).

The point is, they are all still sexual sins, but now under the New Covenant that Jesus Christ brought, our punishment for such sins will be given to us on Judgment Day.  You don’t repent of sexual sin and you go to Hell.  Period.

Now how many Catholics have heard that taught to them by a Catholic priest or a pope?  Too many Catholics run around thinking these things aren’t even in the Bible and if they are, they stopped being a sin when Jesus came along because Jesus was all about love and nothing else.  Stupid Catholics.

Robertson continues:

“Don’t be deceived. Neither the adulterers, the idolaters, the male prostitutes, the homosexual offenders, the greedy, the drunkards, the slanderers, the swindlers—they won’t inherit the kingdom of God. Don’t deceive yourself. It’s not right.”

Again the Duck Dynasty patriarch is preaching the very word of God…

1 Cor. 6 [Protestant NIV Bible]Sexual Immorality 9Or do you not know that wrongdoers will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor men who have sex with men 10nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. 11And that is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.12“I have the right to do anything,” you say—but not everything is beneficial. “I have the right to do anything”—but I will not be mastered by anything. 13You say, “Food for the stomach and the stomach for food, and God will destroy them both. The body, however, is not meant for sexual immorality but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body. 14By his power God raised the Lord from the dead, and he will raise us also. 15Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ himself? Shall I then take the members of Christ and unite them with a prostitute? Never! 16Do you not know that he who unites himself with a prostitute is one with her in body? For it is said, “The two will become one flesh.”b 17But whoever is united with the Lord is one with him in spirit. c18Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a person commits are outside the body, but whoever sins sexually, sins against their own body. 19Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; 20you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.

What Phil Robertson did with one magazine interview was attempt to educate the masses with the very words of God from the Bible.  He actually did what Pope Francis called Catholics to do back in July… “make noise” and “make a mess” to “stir things up”.

Well done Phil Robertson!

When was the last time a Catholic clergy gave such a lesson in the Word of God about sex sins?  The Saints of the Catholic Church were NOT wishy-washy lumps.  They spoke about sin- all sorts of sins, and what it would lead to- that’s part of what made them Saints!

The Catholic Church needs more Saints in the making… our clergy need to grow backbones and speak the TRUTH and the Word of God.  Go make some noise about the wrongs of sexual sins and the need to repent and keep from falling into sexual sin AND TO REFUSE TO SUPPORT SEXUAL SIN.  Romans 1 is very clear that IF you support a sin, you are GUILTY of that sin even if you don’t commit that sin.

Wake up Catholics!  Hear the noise of Phil Robertson!  He’s referencing the Bible and you’re so ignorant you don’t even know it!

Demand your clergy TEACH the word of God to you!  It’s their job to educate the faithful; if they fail in their commission to teach the faith to you they are jeopardizing your salvation.  Demand that they TEACH and stop wasting your time with unicorn farting rainbow homilies.  If you hear a homily that made no sense or taught you nothing, DO NOT BE AFRAID to put them on the spot and say “What was that all about?”

They work for God to teach and spread God’s Word, hold them to it!  Don’t let them get away with feeding you garbage when God has promised you so much more.

The Catholic Church in many ways could learn quite a bit from Duck Dynasty’s Phil Robertson.  Make some noise Catholics and tell the Church you want to hear the Truth.

In Christ,

Julie @ Connecticut Catholic Corner

On another note...

PS: About what Phil said that people are calling 'racist' - again, he was interviewed and asked HIS opinion and he stated WHAT HE SAW WITH HIS OWN EYES ONLY...
“I never, with my eyes, saw the mistreatment of any black person. Not once. Where we lived was all farmers. The blacks worked for the farmers. I hoed cotton with them. I’m with the blacks, because we’re white trash. We’re going across the field.... They’re singing and happy. I never heard one of them, one black person, say, ‘I tell you what: These doggone white people’—not a word!... Pre-entitlement, pre-welfare, you say: Were they happy? They were godly; they were happy; no one was singing the blues.”
He did not deny mistreatment was happening, he was saying HE NEVER SAW IT.  There is NOTHING racist in that comment.  Can Oprah say the same...?
