The Catholic Church could take lessons from Duck Dynasty's Phil Robertson

Wake up Catholic Church, there is a lesson you could learn here.

Duck Dynasty’s patriarch Phil Robertson isn’t a man to waste words, he says it like it is and stands by his faith and he uses Sacred Scripture to back up what he professes as his faith.  How many Catholic clergy and religious do the same?

When Pope Francis said “Who am I to judge?” at WYD on the issue of homosexuality the world went into a tailspin because they didn’t understand what he meant.  The progressives and liberals thought he’d just given the thumbs up to gay marriage.  Conservative traditionalist cried out in a deafening sigh because they KNEW progressives and liberals would take that exact meaning.   Did Pope Francis clarify?  Did he teach with scriptures exactly what the Catholic Church has to say about homosexual relationship and WHY [i.e. Sacred Scripture]? Nope.

On the other hand, Phil Robertson continues to speak clearly on his faith, what the Bible says and WHY he and his family have the faith they do.

Two faithful men speaking about the same issue- one clearly and one that caused so much confusion that the Bishops had to make the media rounds for weeks to clarify that the Church hadn't changed its position on gay marriage.

““I want to tell you something. What is it that I expect as a consequence of World Youth Day? I want a mess. We knew that in Rio there would be great disorder, but I want trouble in the dioceses!”

So far there are crickets in Catholic dioceses.

Not so with Phil Robertson!

Let’s take a closer look at exactly WHAT Phil Robertson said and WHERE did he get that view from?

“Everything is blurred on what’s right and what’s wrong… Sin becomes fine. Start with homosexual behavior and just morph out from there. Bestiality, sleeping around with this woman and that woman and that woman and those men.” –Stop here for a moment-

Anyone paying attention to Christianity today can SEE what Robertson is talking about when he says “everything is blurred on what is right and what’s wrong…Sin becomes fine”.

How true!  Just LOOK at some protestant churches [link at bottom] in the last few decades-they are VOTING on what is sin and what is not sin.  What was once called wrong in their own denominations has now been voted on and suddenly considered ‘right’.  And if the vote goes against the gay marriage supporters they split off their own denomination, take a new vote and make a new denomination that will not tell them anything they don’t want to hear.

Phil Robertson is 100% CORRECT!

Phil next goes on to show how one sin morphs into another.  Again he’s right.  It’s really no different than the studies that show how using marijuana often leads to more hardcore drugs. Same with sin, it continues and grows. Once you are desensitized to something that hurdle is passed, you move on to the next and the next.  When it comes to sin, this is why we (Christians) are REQUIRED to REPENT from the sin- not accept it or tell people it’s no longer a sin!

Repenting means not only admitting it was a sin, but also promising to turn AWAY from that sin.  When people redefine what sin is, they no longer turn from it, instead they welcome the sin with open arms and call it “love and tolerance”- that is NOT biblical and that (I believe) is exactly what Phil Robertson said in his interview.

This leads to another problem we have in society - uneducated Christians.

When people and the media heard his next words they went hog wild CRAZY!  They seemed to think it was Phil Robertson who linked gay sex with bestiality and fornication/adultery- guess what?  That didn’t come from Phil Robertson, he was once again referencing God’s word in the Bible [you know, that book Christians are supposed to believe].

Robertson was referencing God’s word about the punishments of assorted sexual sins found in Leviticus 20 of the Bible. [Since Robertson is a protestant, I will quote the NIV protestant bible here]

From Leviticus 20 -13“‘If a man has sexual relations with a man as one does with a woman, both of them have done what is detestable. They are to be put to death; their blood will be on their own heads.
14“‘If a man marries both a woman and her mother, it is wicked. Both he and they must be burned in the fire, so that no wickedness will be among you.
15“‘If a man has sexual relations with an animal, he is to be put to death, and you must kill the animal.
16‘If a woman approaches an animal to have sexual relations with it, kill both the woman and the animal. They are to be put to death; their blood will be on their own heads.

God put ALL these sexual sins TOGETHER in the Bible - NOT Phil Robertson.

The issue here is that Robertson is educated in the Bible verses and much of our society is not.  They are floundering minions who lap up whatever garbage the media spits at them. Even self professing Christians seemed shocked to hear what Robertson said, as if they'd never read or heard these Scriptures before.  That is a problem, a very big problem.

IF the Catholic Church (and other Christian denominations) were PROPERLY teaching what the Sacred Scriptures said, this wouldn't have been such a news story.  It would have been a little bleep "Another Christian quotes the Bible against gay marriage".  Period.

But that didn't happen because far too many self professing Christians have NO IDEA what the Bible says about much of anything.  Pathetic.

Clearly what Robertson said in his GQ Magazine interview is DIRECTLY from the Bible- God’s word.  He said it because he believes the Bible.  Yes, most of us know that this is the Old Covenant and we do not dole out these punishments, but that does not mean the things listed are no longer sins! And NO ONE is calling for gays to be 'put to death'- we [Christians] are now under the New Covenant not the Old.  Clearly God DID call for that punishment in the Old Testament under the Old Covenant given to the Jewish people, but that is not what New Covenant Christians are called to.  We don't dole out the punishments, we are suppose to TEACH the Faith.  That is our commission from Christ (Matt.28).

The point is, they are all still sexual sins, but now under the New Covenant that Jesus Christ brought, our punishment for such sins will be given to us on Judgment Day.  You don’t repent of sexual sin and you go to Hell.  Period.

Now how many Catholics have heard that taught to them by a Catholic priest or a pope?  Too many Catholics run around thinking these things aren’t even in the Bible and if they are, they stopped being a sin when Jesus came along because Jesus was all about love and nothing else.  Stupid Catholics.

Robertson continues:

“Don’t be deceived. Neither the adulterers, the idolaters, the male prostitutes, the homosexual offenders, the greedy, the drunkards, the slanderers, the swindlers—they won’t inherit the kingdom of God. Don’t deceive yourself. It’s not right.”

Again the Duck Dynasty patriarch is preaching the very word of God…

1 Cor. 6 [Protestant NIV Bible]Sexual Immorality 9Or do you not know that wrongdoers will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor men who have sex with men 10nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. 11And that is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.12“I have the right to do anything,” you say—but not everything is beneficial. “I have the right to do anything”—but I will not be mastered by anything. 13You say, “Food for the stomach and the stomach for food, and God will destroy them both. The body, however, is not meant for sexual immorality but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body. 14By his power God raised the Lord from the dead, and he will raise us also. 15Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ himself? Shall I then take the members of Christ and unite them with a prostitute? Never! 16Do you not know that he who unites himself with a prostitute is one with her in body? For it is said, “The two will become one flesh.”b 17But whoever is united with the Lord is one with him in spirit. c18Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a person commits are outside the body, but whoever sins sexually, sins against their own body. 19Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; 20you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.

What Phil Robertson did with one magazine interview was attempt to educate the masses with the very words of God from the Bible.  He actually did what Pope Francis called Catholics to do back in July… “make noise” and “make a mess” to “stir things up”.

Well done Phil Robertson!

When was the last time a Catholic clergy gave such a lesson in the Word of God about sex sins?  The Saints of the Catholic Church were NOT wishy-washy lumps.  They spoke about sin- all sorts of sins, and what it would lead to- that’s part of what made them Saints!

The Catholic Church needs more Saints in the making… our clergy need to grow backbones and speak the TRUTH and the Word of God.  Go make some noise about the wrongs of sexual sins and the need to repent and keep from falling into sexual sin AND TO REFUSE TO SUPPORT SEXUAL SIN.  Romans 1 is very clear that IF you support a sin, you are GUILTY of that sin even if you don’t commit that sin.

Wake up Catholics!  Hear the noise of Phil Robertson!  He’s referencing the Bible and you’re so ignorant you don’t even know it!

Demand your clergy TEACH the word of God to you!  It’s their job to educate the faithful; if they fail in their commission to teach the faith to you they are jeopardizing your salvation.  Demand that they TEACH and stop wasting your time with unicorn farting rainbow homilies.  If you hear a homily that made no sense or taught you nothing, DO NOT BE AFRAID to put them on the spot and say “What was that all about?”

They work for God to teach and spread God’s Word, hold them to it!  Don’t let them get away with feeding you garbage when God has promised you so much more.

The Catholic Church in many ways could learn quite a bit from Duck Dynasty’s Phil Robertson.  Make some noise Catholics and tell the Church you want to hear the Truth.

In Christ,

Julie @ Connecticut Catholic Corner

On another note...

PS: About what Phil said that people are calling 'racist' - again, he was interviewed and asked HIS opinion and he stated WHAT HE SAW WITH HIS OWN EYES ONLY...
“I never, with my eyes, saw the mistreatment of any black person. Not once. Where we lived was all farmers. The blacks worked for the farmers. I hoed cotton with them. I’m with the blacks, because we’re white trash. We’re going across the field.... They’re singing and happy. I never heard one of them, one black person, say, ‘I tell you what: These doggone white people’—not a word!... Pre-entitlement, pre-welfare, you say: Were they happy? They were godly; they were happy; no one was singing the blues.”
He did not deny mistreatment was happening, he was saying HE NEVER SAW IT.  There is NOTHING racist in that comment.  Can Oprah say the same...?

The Gay Whine

My opinions are not going to be politically correct, but the facts I give will be biblical and thus coming from God, correct.

The Bible is not my opinion, it is God's.  The dictionary I quote and the Catholic catechism I quote are not my opinions either, they are fact whether you like those facts or not, they are facts.  Period.

I am a Duck Dynasty fan, recently Phil Robertson the patriarch of the family, was INTERVIEWED (asked his OPINION) and made a Christian statement about the sin of homosexuality and how it is forbidden in the bible (fact), he continued to give his thoughts in THE INTERVIEW on how he personally couldn’t understand why a man would prefer another man over a woman and all a woman had to offer (his personal opinion during an interview).

“Everything is blurred on what’s right and what’s wrong… Sin becomes fine. Start with homosexual behavior and just morph out from there. Bestiality, sleeping around with this woman and that woman and that woman and those men.
Robertson then paraphrased Corinthians from the Bible: “Don’t be deceived. Neither the adulterers, the idolaters, the male prostitutes, the homosexual offenders, the greedy, the drunkards, the slanderers, the swindlers—they won’t inherit the kingdom of God. Don’t deceive yourself. It’s not right.”

For sharing a biblical fact and answering a question with his personal opinion IN AN INTERVIEW TO HEAR HIS PERSONAL OPINIONS- he has been suspended from the hit show “indefinitely” because…you guessed it… the oh so INTOLERANT gays are whining and screaming their perverted heads off.

[insert whiny voice] GAY INTOLERANT WHINE FROM GLADD:  “Phil and his family claim to be Christian, but Phil’s lies about an entire community fly in the face of what true Christians believe,” said spokesperson Wilson Cruz. “He clearly knows nothing about gay people or the majority of Louisianans – and Americans – who support legal recognition for loving and committed gay and lesbian couples. Phil’s decision to push vile and extreme stereotypes is a stain on A&E and his sponsors who now need to reexamine their ties to someone with such public disdain for LGBT people and families.”

Phil Robertson quoted the BIBLE – there is NOTHING “vile” in the quote, but rather in the ACT OF HOMOSEXUAL RELATIONSHIPS- now THAT is vile!  It is an ABOMINATION TO GOD and as such Christians, be they Catholic or Protestant have the RIGHT to call it what it is…SIN.  That is exactly what Robertson did.

What's the point of AN INTERVIEW if you can't give your view??

FACT: According to Oxford dictionary an "interview" means:
verb

*to question (someone) to discover their opinions or experience:in a survey more than half the women interviewed hated the label “housewife.”
Gee, imagine that!  Interviewing someone means asking questions to find out the persons opinions!

Who'dathunkit??

Not supporters of the gay agenda apparently!

My opinion:  Gays need to SHUT UP and quit whining already!  Every time they scream “tolerance” to THEIR cause I feel like screaming back at them "HYPOCRITES!".  There is not a tolerant blood cell in their entire body!  Not one, for ANYONE who disagrees with them!  It is NOT hateful to oppose gay marriage.  It does NOT mean we have a “fear” of homosexuals.  It means we (Christians) TRUST IN GODS WORD.  God called it a sin, then it IS a sin. Period.  God did NOT ask us our opinion on what should or shouldn’t be offensive to Him, He told us straight (no pun intended) up what is sin and that such unrepentant sin WOULD send us to HELL for eternal damnation.  Period.

If a Christian, ANY Christian voices their OPINION or QUOTES THE BIBLE, the gay agenda mob are INSTANTLY attacking them, threatening them and (in the media) SUSPENDING them!  The message is clear:  NO TOLERANCE FOR CHRISTIANS.

Had Duck Dynasty’s star been a Muslim and made the SAME comments I have to wonder if ANYONE would have said anything?  When was the last time you heard ANY Muslim attacked by gays/liberals for opposing gay marriage or the gay agenda?  When?  Has ANYONE in the media covered such a story?  I haven’t seen it.

But EVERY time a Christian mentions opposition to any part of the gay agenda they are ATTACKED and called “homophobic”.

Fact:  According to the Oxford Dictionary, “homophobia” is:
noun·              an extreme and irrational aversion to homosexuality and homosexual people.
Having an opposition to gay marriage/relationships is NOT "homophobic". That's like saying opposing dog licensing is "dogophobic".  Ridiculous!

Fact:  The bible says ALL homosexual relationships are MORTAL SIN and MORTAL SIN sends you to HELL.  The bible is VERY clear that in NO WAY EVER can homosexual relationships be accepted- they are an ABOMINATION to God.

Lev. 18:22 You shall not lie with a male as with a woman; it is an abomination.

Lev. 20:13 If a man lies with a male as with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination; they shall be put to death; their blood is upon them.

1 Cor. 6:9-10 Do you not know that wrongdoers will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived! Fornicators, idolaters, adulterers, male prostitutes, sodomites, thieves, the greedy, drunkards, revilers, robbers—none of these will inherit the kingdom of God.

Romans 1:26-28 For this reason God gave them up to degrading passions. Their women exchanged natural intercourse for unnatural, and in the same way also the men, giving up natural intercourse with women, were consumed with passion for one another. Men committed shameless acts with men and received in their own persons the due penalty for their error. And since they did not see fit to acknowledge God, God gave them up to a debased mind and to things that should not be done.

Duck Dynasty’s star Phil Robertson did NOTHING WRONG.  HE was being interviewed and ASKED his OPINIONS.  He answered and now he is being crucified for it by the perverts who are headed for Hell in a hand basket and don’t even know it.

When Christians tell others what is sin, they ARE LOVING THEM!  To keep quiet and not tell people what is sin is in DIRECT OPPOSITION to what Jesus Christ ORDERED us to do (ie The Great Commission - Matt.28:19-20).

So spare me the "You big mean Catholic! Pope Francis said 'Who am I to judge'...blah, blah, blah".  The Pope didn't rewrite the Bible OR the Catholic catechism...

2357 Homosexuality refers to relations between men or between women who experience an exclusive or predominant sexual attraction toward persons of the same sex. It has taken a great variety of forms through the centuries and in different cultures. Its psychological genesis remains largely unexplained. Basing itself on Sacred Scripture, which presents homosexual acts as acts of grave depravity,141 tradition has always declared that "homosexual acts are intrinsically disordered."142 They are contrary to the natural law. They close the sexual act to the gift of life. They do not proceed from a genuine affective and sexual complementarity. Under no circumstances can they be approved.

2359 Homosexual persons are called to chastity. By the virtues of self-mastery that teach them inner freedom, at times by the support of disinterested friendship, by prayer and sacramental grace, they can and should gradually and resolutely approach Christian perfection.

Period.

Facts are facts and opinions are opinions, its too bad in our society today the only opinions or facts ALLOWED are those of homosexuals and those who support them.

Not to worry Christians, we've got our bibles and we know how it all ends and who the winners and losers will be.  From now till then all we can do is tell the Truth.

Keep the faith and never shut up about it- there's a crown in heaven for those who stand with God's Truth.

In Christ,

Julie @ Connecticut Catholic Corner

Ancient Graveyard Found Beneath Vatican City

The public can now take a walk beneath Vatican City to an ancient burial ground first discovered during the construction of the Santa Rosa parking garage back in the 1950's by construction workers.

This ancient area beneath the Vatican opened to the public on Wednesday, December 11, 2013 for the first time.

Visitors can now walk around under Vatican City along a well lit pathway that winds its way through this ancient burial site.  *Note, this area is not yet handicapped accessible.

The underground cemetery reveals individual tombs with amazing (now restored) painted tombstones and tiles.  Also found among the tombs were cremation urns.  Nearby charcoal, burnt pine kernels and pine-cone scales used in the clay furnaces to cremate the bodies were also found.

"The new tour route winds its way through the remains of the necropolis, offering visitors the chance to admire the cemetery as a whole, but also to appreciate with a close-up view of the numerous decorations: marbles, mosaics, frescoes, stucco returned to its former glory after the recent restoration.  Among the significant innovations of the excavation we report the discovery of a designated area for cremations (ustrino), which are rarely preserved in complexes of this type. Two new stores were set up with a thematic criterion concerning the furnishings used for funerary rituals, personal belongings of the deceased, the different What to do for the burial or cremation burial. A third new showcase illustrates the stratigraphic excavation 2009-2011 according to the method of archaeologists, in order to show a real 'split' synthetic section of the excavation. Along the tour route were also exposed other finds from the nearby areas of same Necropolis no longer visible (Sector dell'Annona) or not normally open to the public (Sector Galea), in order to complement and further enhance the museum display on the site."

Numerous altars litter the underground ancient cemetery as well, which were found to contain 'offerings to the dead' in the first century A.D. (a custom at the time).

The visitors walking tour of this ancient site offers interactive touch screens along the way to learn more about what the visitor is viewing as well as the history discovered here.

"Hot" Roman Catholic Priests Calendar

Yeah, I know, that title is disturbing, but that is how it showed up in my email.

The new 2014 "Calendario Roman" by Piero Pazzo is now available.  This calendar in Italy is known at the "Hot priest" calendar according to one source (warning: some of the other content maybe offensive)

"While photographer Piero Pazzi's "Roman Priest Calendar" isn't serving up the salaciousness of the Orthodox Priest calendar, it does have one thing going for it:
Pazzi assures us his priests are real! And they are GORGEOUS. So what's got these sexy holy men stepping in front of Pazzi's lens?"
The reason for the calendar?  Roman Catholic and Vatican trivia apparently.

The Roman Catholic priests allow themselves to be photographed and placed in the calendar to share Vatican facts according to the photographer.

But the trivia isn't want people on the streets are talking about.  Nope, the local media and people are caught up in how 'sexy' and 'gorgeous' the holy men are.  Nothing mentioned by buyers about chastity or celibacy of the priests. Nope, just how 'sexy' these men of the Church are. I'm guessing Pope Francis didn't make it to 2014 calendar.  If the reason for the calendar was to promote information about the Vatican wouldn't a few snap shots of the Pope be more in keeping with the stated reason for the calendar?

I hope the priests don't encourage anyone to refer to them as "sexy holy men" or "strapping young men of the cloth" (as stated below).  It's just wrong in my personal opinion.  Sends an entirely WRONG message of "holy men" and God's Roman Catholic priests.

It's never right to make a human being into an object- certainly not "holy men of the cloth".

I've got nothing against a good cause or informing people about the Vatican. I do have a problem with USING priests as objects.  Let's face it, the calendar is NOT to educate people, it's to make objects out of "holy men of the cloth" so people can gawk at them.

The photographer's website states:

WHAT IS IT?The CALENDARIO ROMANO 2014 joint to pictures it also contains generical informations about the Vaticano State
WHERE CAN YOU FIND IT ?in all kioscos and souvenir store of Rome and Venice or ordering it by e-mail: info@calendarioromano.org
According to "The Local: Italy's News in English"...

"It is officially called the Calendario Romano, or Roman Calendar. But on the streets of Rome, the annual line-up of strapping young men of the cloth is better known as the "hot priest calendar".
Anyone else offended by "strapping young men of the cloth" description?

See last year's 2013 Roman Catholic priest calendar: HERE

I truly have no idea what this 2013 priest (right image) is being fed during what looks like mass but it doesn't look like the Eucharist to me.

The Roman Catholic priests do not give their names to the photographer, just their permission to photograph them and use the photos for the calendar.  This photographer has been publishing these priest calendars since 2003 and they seem to be quite the item in Italy.

In this Catholics opinion this is wrong and I would hope SOMEONE at the Vatican would at the very least use this to TEACH that people are not objects and Roman Catholic priests are not to be used at "sexy" objects.

According to Jesus, merely looking with lust at someone causes you to sin (Matt.5:28), so WHY on earth would any KNOWING (assuming they know about this since its been going on for a decade) clergy member allow themselves to be part of such a thing?

Call me a prude, I don't care.  I don't like and I think it's wrong.

In Christ,

Julie @ Connecticut Catholic Corner

The Gay Christmas Lights of Rome

Is nothing sacred any more?

Christmas lights in Rome normally used to celebrate the birth of our Savior Jesus Christ, have been hijacked by the perverted.

The Christmas Lights normally seen in Rome this time of year have been replaced with "Gay Lights"- a rainbow flag of lights cloaking the streets.  The lights are meant to make people forget about Christ's birth and instead focus on gays and the made up nonsense of people fearing homosexuals (homophobia).

"City assemblywoman Imma Battaglia says she and mayor Ignazio Marino had decided to send a message with the multi-coloured lights, which lit up on Friday and ripple for a kilometre and a half of the bustling Via del Corso.
Ms Battaglia, who also leads a gay rights campaign group, said the lights were intended to be against homophobia following the suicide of a gay teenager in the city."

Information Catholics should know...

“The Pope from the New World” NOW available from Amazon:

The film Francis: “The Pope from the New World” is now available on DVD through Amazon.com.

Thanks to the great work of the Knights of Columbus!!!!

The production features interviews with Pope Francis' friends and associates in Argentina, as well as with American commentators such as Supreme Knight Carl Anderson and members of the hierarchy, including Cardinal Timothy Dolan, Cardinal Sean O’Malley, Archbishop Charles Chaput and Archbishop Jose Gomez.

The world has been fascinated by our new Holy Father, but many people still do not fully know the man who is now our pope. This film introduces viewers to Jorge Mario Bergoglio — the man who became Pope Francis — and his life story, from his childhood and the patronage of his local soccer team to his vocation and time as a priest, bishop and then cardinal-archbishop of Buenos Aires.

-------

This year, Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception, 8 December, falls on a Sunday.  For this reason, according to the Ordo, the celebration of the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception has been transferred to Monday, 9 December.

The US bishops conference typically waives obligations of Holy Days which fall on Monday or a Friday;  Sunday is always a day of Obligation.

Hence, in 2013, 9 December is NOT a Holy Day of Obligation in most dioceses (unless a bishop says differently). BUT, just because it is not a holy day, it doesn't mean that we ought not observe this feast day by going to Mass and doing a charitable act. We are in relationship with Jesus Christ, as Pope Francis reminds!

Remember, Mary of the Immaculate Conception is our national patronal feast. Say a prayer for our great nation.
