INCULTURATION,WORSHIP, AND SACRAMENTS
Liturgy and inculturation are major topics of conversation
at all levels in ministry to Native American
Catholics. No attempt was made in this survey to
assess the degree of inculturation that is envisaged
or attempted, but the survey asked, “Do the Native
people in your arch/diocese use their religious symbols
and rituals in their communal prayer life?”
Fifty-one dioceses (just under 30 percent of the
total) replied “Yes” to this question and described
the symbols and how they are used. A number of
dioceses stressed that these symbols and rituals are
used only on special occasions; others indicated that
they are incorporated into the ongoing worship of
the community. Among the most common symbols/rituals
are the following:
• Smudging (blessing, purifying) with cedar, sage,
sweetgrass, and tobacco
• Eagle feather used in blessings
• Dance and drums used for liturgies
• Indian music in liturgy (one diocese noted that
Br. Martin Fenerty, FSC, has composed five
Masses based on Native American melodies)
• Indian naming ceremony in conjunction
with Baptism
• Native attire used in local and diocesan
celebrations
• Four-directional prayer
• Sweat lodge
• Statues, relics of Blessed Kateri Tekakwitha
• Medicine wheel
• Native crucifix and cross
• Sacred vessels, decorations, and vestments
with Native designs
• Sacred pipe
The incorporation of Native symbols and rituals in
communal worship is much more common in
parishes/ministries serving Native Americans on
reservations or in rural communities than in urban
settings. Some of those ministering to Native
Americans noted that the diversity of tribes, and thus
symbols, in urban areas makes it difficult to find symbols
relevant to all the groups to whom they minister.[clipped]
Even Archbishop Chaput has prayed in sweat lodges and gone on vision quests. 😕 I don't get it and I'm part Native American, so is my ex-husband so my kids get it from both sides of the family. I've been to Pow-wow's, many of them over the years (prior to becoming Catholic) and Native American celebrations. It is part of my family's heritage, that doesn't change the fact that scared pipes, medicine wheels, smudging, sweat lodges (used to talk to entities) etc., are all part of Native American paganism. How can you be Catholic while still clinging to pagan "scared" objects and practices like the medicine wheel?
What's a medicine wheel you might be wondering?

How about that sacred pipe?

The reason why tobacco is used to connect the worlds is that the plant's roots go deep into the earth, and its smoke rises high into the heavens."
Does any of that sound compatible with Catholicism to you? It's paganism! Quit straddling the fence. Either you're Catholic or you're not. Give up the pagan sacred items and embrace Catholicism.

Interesting Vortex by Michael Voris over at Church Militant today.
Mr. Voris is clearly not happy with all that has happened at this Synod (no smart Catholic would be)- and from the time Pope Benedict resigned. In today's Vortex, Mr. Voris goes after Pope Benedict for the damage he caused by resigning...

Voris also goes on to list all the progressive men Benedict elevated to Cardinal...
...yet if you note, it was Saint Pope John Paul II who made ALL these men Bishops in the first place. And recall, it was Saint John Paul II who kissed the koran,
...turned a blind eye to the sex abuse scandal when, then Cardinal Ratzinger, tried in the 1980's to get these corrupt abusive men out of the Church (as I wrote about HERE years ago)...
- it was Saint Paul John Paul who protected the pedophile priests for decades. It was JPII who started World Youth Days with incredible abuses- namely passing our Lord around in Dixie cups, paper bags and just one person to another like it was not the Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of God they were so callously handling.
What has World Youth Day taught Catholic youth except to abuse our Lord and treat Holy Communion as if it were a Protestant communion of mere bread in "remembrance" only of the Lord? My point here, is that I think Mr. Voris's anger over the disaster of this current Synod and general pontificate is misplaced. If he wants to be angry about who did what in the history of our Church, I think Church Militant could make a much stronger case against Saint John Paul II than against Pope Benedict who did do much good for our Church in his own struggled attempts to turn back the evil tidal wave that was coming. But prophecy doesn't say that the evil will be stopped by one pope alone...in fact prophecy has a lot to say about two popes living at the same time (read Bl. Anne Catherine Emmerich for more on this). Jesus hand picked Judas fully knowing that Judas would one day betray Him...prophecy was going to be fulfilled and Judas was the one to do it. How do we know it wasn't God who told Benedict it was time to leave? To be clear I am not saying it was God, only making the case that we don't know that it wasn't God who told Benedict to step aside. Again, I say this in light of the dozens upon dozens of prophecies about "two popes" a "white pope and a black (probably Jesuit) pope" living at the same time. This prophecy (so far) seems to be true, and if it is, then a pope had to resign so that another could be named to fulfill prophecy- but did a pope decide on his own to step aside or is it God's will? That is what none of us knows. Time will tell if the rest of it occurs. For myself, while I hate that Pope Benedict resigned (I was devastated by it and felt betrayed by him), I will (for now) give him the benefit of the doubt because of prophecy. And for now I place the most blame on Saint Pope John Paul II and our current Pope Francis. Remember, JPII was adored by the world for kissing the koran and his "mercy" and "love" for all people just as Pope Francis is now adored by crowds of people who can't seem to contain themselves at the mere sight of Francis (JPII had the same effect on people- the "rock star" popes) - yet many of these same people swooning over the mere sight of the pope probably can't be bothered to attend Mass regularly or visit Christ in the Eucharist. Recall, it was Pope Benedict who was hated, mocked and attacked by most of the world, especially the media for being too orthodox...that should tell you something.
Jesus: "If you had been of the world, the world would love its own: but because you are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you." John 15:19
Mr. Voris says Pope Benedict abandoned the flock...true only if it was Benedict's choice and not God's will for him to resign (and we may never know the answer to that). It's my personal opinion, that Saint Pope John Paul II abandoned the flock decades earlier with what I see as a mostly failed papacy in regards to building up a faithful or faithless Catholic clergy and laity (does anyone believe Catholics were well taught the Faith during JPII's papacy?). Pope John Paul II retained the adoration of the clueless masses until his final breath. God rest his soul. So who did more damage to the Church and the laity? JPII for making all those progressive liberal men Bishops in the first place or Benedict for resigning? Time will tell, but at this point, I am leaning more towards JPII doing more damage than Benedict. Once more "art" has become a blasphemous act, insulting and upsetting Catholics and other Christians when a young "artist" decided to place a statue of Mary, the Holy Virgin Mother of God inside a condom.
"Virgin in a Condom formed part of an exhibition of Young British Artists, the "brat pack" of rising talent championed by advertising magnate Charles Saatchi, and whose most famous member was Damien Hirst. Artist Tania Kovat used her rubber-sheathed Madonna to air concerns about the Catholic Church's treatment of sexuality, contraception and abortion, Te Papa chief executive Cheryll Sotheran said at the time."
What is wrong with people? How can someone see "art" in placing a condom on ANY religious figure? This reminds me of the sick "art" of placing a crucifix in a jar of urine. Or the "artist" who rubbed his naked body against a crucifix and called it "art".
These people are sick.

Cheers to the Catholics who refused to be silent and for those demanding Pope Francis actually do something to the Bishops who once more failed to teach traditional Catholicism:

A group of men dressed as nuns, calling themselves the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, handed out condoms. Politicians waded in on the debate, with National MP John Banks calling for solicitor-general John McGrath to prosecute Te Papa under a blasphemy section of the Crimes Act. McGrath refused. Protest group Catholic Action spent $30,000 on full-page newspaper advertisements demanding the Pope sack New Zealand's 10 bishops for not pushing traditional Catholic teachings. A league of Catholic groups gathered 33,000 signatures by April demanding the show be canned, and Catholic organisations wrote to Cultural Affairs Minister Simon Upton, calling for Te Papa senior staff to be fired."
If the Pope has done or said anything about this, I have yet to hear about it or see it in the media.
Can you imagine what would have happened if this young "artist" had done the same thing against Islam? I am guessing that "art" would NEVER have been allowed, but since its Catholic bashing, its open season.

The Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines has
voiced its support for an “anti-discrimination” law to not treat lesbian, gay,
bisexual and transgender people as “second-class” citizens. But what “rights” exactly are the Bishops supporting
for LGBT people so they no longer feel like they are being treated as second
class citizens?
Tell me I'm wrong, but it looks to me that the CBCP is supporting gay rights in a roundabout way...

proposed anti-discrimination law as long as it rejects second-class treatment

Villegas
said an anti-discrimination law is a “gesture of charity” if discrimination
means “that certain individuals, because of sexual orientation or gender
identity, are systematically denied fundamental

priests to care for all, including the LGBT community, and warned parents
against imbuing in children “the loathing and disgust” for the LGBT. He
instructed Catholic schools, for their part, to implement a “zero-tolerance”
policy against “the bullying and badgering of persons in such personal
situations.”
Villegas explained that treating the members of the LGBT community
as outcasts “certainly does not conform to Pope Francis’ vision of the Church
as the sacrament of divine mercy and compassion.”
“Persons with homosexual
orientation are sons and daughters of God; no less than any of us is.
Discrimination against them is contrary to the Gospel spirit. Verbal and
physical violence against them is an offense against the good Lord Himself,”
the archbishop said. Villegas issued
this statement as the anti-discrimination bill passed the committee level at
the House of Representatives on February 11. This means congressmen can begin
to debate on the bill in the plenary.
The bill “seeks to prohibit
discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity,” the
bill's principal author, Dinagat Islands Representative Kaka Bag-ao, said in a
statement.” -End quote-
Some interesting wording that I am sure will be seen
differently by different people. Let’s
start with “lower category enjoying fewer rights”.
What “rights” exactly do homosexuals legally
need that they don’t already have? They have
the right to live, food, shelter, to work, join the military, own property, go
to school, vote, have a career…what rights are they missing that make them feel
“discriminated” against?
Oh yes… MARRIAGE!!
The Bishops here are either being completely naïve or
extremely deceptive. The Philippines is
ranked one of THE MOST GAY FRIENDLY places in the WORLD. Certainly no one is advocating verbal or physical violence against homosexuals and since the Philippines is ranked as one of the top 10 gay friendly places in the entire world, then what "discrimination" are they suffering?
If the Philippines are so “gay friendly”, then what is the
reason for this anti-discrimination law? What's left?
Marriage.
It’s the only “right” they claim they are lacking. So this is all about gay marriage and activists [in my opinion] are using the Philippine Bishops to push their gay agenda under the mantle of "charity" and ending "discrimination".
What about Archbishop Villegas’ statement “systematically denied
fundamental human rights”? What’s that supposed
to mean? Are they denied the right to
food? Shelter? Jobs?
To own property? To vote? No, they are not. They have ALL those rights, just like other
citizens.
What's missing? Marriage.
The Vatican has made it quite clear the Church can not and will not recognize any gay unions.
So once more I ask, what “fundamental human right” is the CBCP talking
about, that homosexuals currently don’t have in the Philippines if not marriage which the Church cannot and will not support?
And what's that last crack about treating LGBT's like "outcasts" [who exactly is doing that and how will this law change it?] and Pope Francis' view for the Church? How are they being treated like "outcasts" in one of the most gay friendly places in the entire world?
I wish Archbishop Villegas would have specified exactly what
he was talking about.

Progressive “Catholics”
as they call themselves (they don’t like to be called “liberal” anymore) are on
the march and growing INSIDE our Church.
They are not just in our laity, but also within our clergy as you will
see.
During this year’s
2013 WYD they heard Pope Francis say, “… I want to
see the church get closer to the people. I want to get rid of clericalism, the
mundane, this closing ourselves off within ourselves, in our parishes, schools
or structures. Because these need to get out!"
And from that
they have determined that Pope Francis is going to “decentralize” the Catholic
Church and make way for all new theology- gay marriages, women priests,
abortion, birth control, a democratic Catholic Church where the laity vote for
bishops and popes and more.
Yes, that is
what they want.
*facepalm*
They look to
Hans Kung (who in my opinion SHOULD have been excommunicated and tossed OUT on
his backside decades ago for the HERETIC he is) for his view of Vatican II and
how the Catholic Church of the future should be:
“While no reasonable person will expect
that all reforms can be effected by one man overnight, a shift would be
possible in five years….But today the direction should be made clear again: not
a restoration to pre-council times as there was under Pope John Paul II and
Benedict XVI, but instead considered, planned and well-communicated steps to
reform along the lines of the Second Vatican Council,” says Hans Kung” [quote
from CatholicChurchReform.com]
Their plan is essentially to turn the Holy
Catholic and Apostolic Church into another protestant denomination while
maintaining the title “Catholic” and claiming the Vatican.
Unfortunately, (again) SOME Catholic Bishop’s
turn a blind eye to this heresy and do…well, NOTHING. *Examples to follow*
Pope Benedict XVI (among some controversy
at the time) sat down to dinner with Hans Kung, a well known euthanasia
supporter. Kung, while forbidden from
TEACHING Catholic theology (a true blessing, trust me!),still retains priestly
faculties because neither his Bishop nor any Pope has revoked them.
*sigh*
Is it ANY wonder why we have Catholics the
likes of Nancy Pelosi and Joe Biden publicly declaring they ARE Catholic
while at the same time FLAUNTING their heretical beliefs without a Bishop in
site to stop them?
THAT my friends is what is wrong with the
Church today- rotten heretics IN the Church.

For a Bishop, to NOT correct heretical
beliefs in the Church is to allow them to grow and spread like a disease.
What can we think of this?
Are the Bishops too lazy?
Maybe some.
Are SOME of the Bishops themselves corrupt
and holding heretical beliefs?
Yes.
We’ve seen the proof of that not only in the clergy abuse tragedy, but
also in (too many to count) dioceses where liturgical abuses occur (who can
forget Father Fred Bailey and his Halloween Masses where he dresses like Barney
the dinosaur and has women dressed as red devils handing out the Eucharist to
people like trick-or-treaters) and in some areas with entire parishes are
working hard to ensure gay marriage by having parades and fund raisers right
under the Bishop’s noses. Either those
Bishops are completely clueless or they just don’t care. Either way, they are inept and are failing
Holy Mother Church and Her commission from Jesus.

From liturgical abuses to flat out heresy,
some of our Bishops are COMPLETELY failing in their duties as Bishop to CORRECT
parish priests AND the laity. Other
Bishops are PUBLICLY PROMOTING HERESY!

Some examples of what I mean…
“At a conference in Pittsburgh, sponsored by New Ways Ministry, Bishops
Thomas Gumbleton of Detroit and Matthew Clark of Rochester, New York,
encouraged homosexuals to be active in the Church, and suggested that in time
the Catholic Church would approve homosexual unions. “ And from the same article: “Sister Margaret Farley of Yale Divinity School made the astonishing assertion:
"None of the sources of Christian ethics, I would argue, yields reasons to
condemn homosexual acts or relationships as such." What sort of people would participate in such
an assault on Catholic tradition? The answer to that question highlights the danger
to the Church. Francis DeBernardo, the head of New Ways Ministry, told a
reporter that nearly half of the people attending the conference were Catholic
priests or nun, and perhaps as many as 75 percent of the participants were
engaged in some form of religious education or diocesan ministry. So the people
who are being encouraged to distort the Church's teachings will now go back to
their own diocesan jobs, and spread the message of dissent.”
This “Jesuit”
University promotes the “gay agenda” that the Church officially rejects!
“Several official departments at the University of San Francisco
not only encouraged students to take part in the city’s LGBT (Lesbian Gay
Bisexual Transgender) Pride Parade on June 30 but also provided free t-shirts
to students and their guests who signed up to march.According to the Pride
Parade site, the University of San Francisco LGBTQ Caucus for Faculty/Staff
marched behind Planned Parenthood and Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi.”

some of you don’t like me defending Michael Voris, but let me just interject
something here.
Michael Voris’
internet show was previously called “RealCatholicTV.com” because it stuck with
OFFICIAL “real” Catholic teachings backed up by the catechism. The Archdiocese of Detroit demanded that
Voris not use the word “Catholic” any longer because under Canon Law 216 ‘no undertaking is to claim the name
'Catholic' without the consent of competent ecclesiastical authority’, so in

rub… WHY do SOME Bishops target Catholic laity who ARE teaching and sharing
official Church doctrine, yet turn a blind eye- or WORSE -SUPPORT Catholics who
PUBLICLY oppose official Church doctrine?

Universities supporting things that contradict Catholic teaching? Why are Pro-Abortion “Catholic” politicians
allowed to cause scandal by publicly receiving Holy Communion regardless of

Did no one
see these sparks of heresy growing into a forest fire?
Have we
learned NOTHING from heresies in the past?
Heresy does
not fade away. It must be STAMPED OUT.
Like the
flame in the forest, you MUST put it out or it will burn down the forest.
The Catholic
Church today has a forest fire taking up its real-estate and most people are
too blind to see the flames around them.
Others, (like me) are choking on the black smoke that is billowing out
of Her and we want to help.
We want our
Bishops to STAMP OUT the heresies, stop clergy abuse, stop scandal and stop
fanning the flames with their “If we ignore it, it will go away” approach.
It won’t go
away.

website, a recent blog post ran with the Martin Luther King “I have a dream”
speech and wrote their own “dream speech” for how they would like the Holy Catholic
Church to be. (Warning: you might want to vomit, so don’t read this on a full
stomach)
“I dream of a Church that is inclusive of all faiths.
When they come to share in our liturgy they are also welcomed to share the
Eucharist with us. I have a dream. I dream that the Church will become
less clerical encouraging more of a voice from the people of
God. I dream that the baptized faithful are encouraged to take an active
role in the selection of their bishops in every diocese throughout
the world. I have a dream. As we face a shortage of priests to lead our Church,
I dream of a time when celibacy would be optional and when women
would be given an expanded role in the Church. I dream of a Church that
encourages the faithful to exercise their conscience in matters of faith and

This “dream” is
NOT the Holy Catholic Church that Christ created. This “dream” is just another protestant
denomination – but progressives are NOT happy with merely creating ANOTHER
protestant denomination- no. They want to FORCE the real Church to change for
them.

True Marriage
- gay “unions” – gay “marriage”. They
wanted the term “marriage” so the nation had to REDEFINE what “marriage” meant.
Now these
progressives what to REDEFINE what the Catholic Church is!

The Apostles
didn’t ignore the heretics and wish them away.
Neither did the Council of Trent.
So why are
heretics IN the Church TODAY not dealt with as in the past?
Too high
up? Too much trouble? Not enough good men willing to take on the
task of REALLY “cleaning house” within the Church? I don’t know the answer or even if there is
ONE answer. That’s far above my pay
grade, as the saying goes.
What I think
is, we don’t need ONE good Pope to do it.
We need ALL practicing laity and the GOOD clergy- together, from laity to deacon to parish priest to Bishop to SPEAK
UP! Point your fingers at the heretics
IN and OUT of the Church and let them be known!
Or as the
Council of Trent put it… “LET HIM BE ANATHEMA!”[Meaning excommunicated]
Do you have a
wonderful Bishop? Tell the world about
him!
Pray for
him! Thank him! Ask God to strengthen him so that he can do
what Christ calls him to do. And then
thank God you have that Bishop!
We have great
and wonderful Bishops and they MUST have our support.
Do you know a
progressive “Catholic”? Teach him/her
the TRUTH. It might not be entirely
their fault they are “progressive”!

If they
belong to a liberal leaning/progressive parish they are being spoon fed heresy
and it’s corrupting their thinking.
You can
change that! You can put out the fire of
heresy and keep it from spreading to others.
Plant the
seeds of Truth every chance you get. You
just might be the ONLY one they hear the Truth from. You can change a person’s life and lead them
to the path of salvation simply by telling them the Truth of God’s Word.
And don’t
neglect to correct the “progressive” clergy either. Just because they are
clergy doesn’t mean you can’t approach them with your concerns.
Write them letters
filled with quotes from the catechism, Saints and Popes showing them the Truth
of the Church.
"According to
their knowledge, competence and prestige which they possess, [the Christian
faithful] have the right and even at the times the duty to manifest to the
sacred pastors their opinion on matters which pertain to the good of the Church
and to make their opinion known to the rest of the Christian faithful"- Canon Law 212 Section 3

reason to fear lest this great perversity may be as it were a foretaste, and
perhaps the beginning of those evils which are reserved for the last days; and
that there may be already in the world the "Son of Perdition" of whom
the Apostle speaks (II. Thess. ii., 3). Such, in truth, is the audacity and the
wrath employed everywhere in persecuting religion, in combating the dogmas of
the faith, in brazen effort to uproot and destroy all relations between man and
the Divinity! While, on the other hand, and this according to the same apostle

Are we
fighting against the “Son of Perdition” or FOR him?
Catholics
must FIGHT FOR YOUR FAITH. Don’t let the
progressives gain any more ground. Teach
TRUE Catholicism! Call out the
heretics! Expose the lies being fed to
the mass AT our Masses and beyond.
As Sacred
Scripture says (which is the motto of this blog) “Do not allow what you
consider good to be spoken of as evil.” Romans 14:16
Our Holy
Catholic and Apostolic Church IS GOOD as are Her teachings. Don’t let anyone
tell you anything less.
